Cricket Cranes have been popular as a great fielding and bowling team but they are starting to show that their batting is leveling up at the highest level.

Uganda amassed 896 runs from 167.5 overs with scores of more than 250 runs in three games; Italy (254), Tanzania (289), and Hong Kong (292).

Riazat Ali Shah amassed the most runs for the team (276) with a century and two-half centuries to his name with an average of 69, with Shrideep Mangela the second-highest run-getter for Uganda with 173 runs in five innings at an average of 43. Robinson Obuya amassed 141 runs in his 5 innings and he was the consistent at the top with an average of 28.

Uganda relied a lot on their middle order for bailouts with Dinesh Nakrani (169) at an average of 56 and Alpesh Ramjani (112) making useful contributions at the back end. Ramjani and Riazat Ali Shah had the highest partnership of 139 for Uganda.

The hosts found a great balance with the ball. The win against Italy was courtesy of some quality bowling from the slow bowlers. Henry Ssenyondo (11) picked the most wickets followed by Alpesh Ramjani (10) with the former reminding his doubters why he is an automatic selection for the side.

Cosmas Kyewuta (5/28) had the best bowling figures for the quicks but he shared responsibility with Juma Miyagi, the latter the preferred option in the final two games.

The Cricket Cranes had put in the work with the bat and it started to show in the middle. The shot selection was very good and they knew when they needed to take risks.

There is a difference of only two points between Uganda at the top and Hong Kong China in third place.

There is still a long way to go in the Challenge League with Uganda needing at least seven wins from the 10 games left.
