2024 Uganda National Handball League:
Champions:
- Women: Police women handball club – 34 points
- Men: Ndejje University – 23 points
Police and Ndejje University won the 2024 men and women respective national handball league titles.
With a massive 34 points, Police successfully defended their crown with 17 victories and only one loss, scoring as many as 818 goals and conceding 531 with a difference of 287 goals.
Police will need to laud the services of Lillian Achola, Jesca Nakamaanya, Diana Nakamya, Cynthia Akinyi, Dorren Ondoa, Shakirah Bako and Beatrice Achayo for the brave effort.
This was the fourth time in a row that Police was victorious in the national handball league.
“We have won the league four times in a row now. Allahu Akbar, I give thanks to our top management, of course the IGP, our Sports Officer ACP Abu Kalule, SSP Nampoza Ritah, our team manager for supporting the sport and the team. I am beyond proud to congratulate each of my players and fellow coaches Pirwoth Emmanns, Kisitu Faridah, Nabayaza Noelin, Ssemujju Frank, Ayet Fred upon this big achievement” Yakoub Azizi, coach Police women handball team echoed.
“We now shift our target to the East and Central Handball club championship that will be held in Kigali this year from 15th December 2024” Azizi added.
Prisons finished the league in second place with 30 points, same as Victoria University.
Ndejje University (24), UPDF (22), Nkajja (15), Kyengeza Bees (11), Kawanda SS (10), Wanainchi (4) and Makerere University (0) followed suit.
For the men, Ndejje University win the title unbeaten with 23 points, two better than second placed UPDF.
Ndejje University was inspired by Victor Obedmoth, Ignatius Anzoretu, Godwin Bingana, Peter Kwisanga, Denis Okwer, Jakisa Anuari and Nicholas Job Atugonza, among others.
Hassan Male, head coach at Ndejje University attributed the victory to sheer diligence and commitment.
“With unwavering focus and relentless determination, I first respected UPDF because they were really good team but as the culmination of all our hard work and passion. Every play was a testament to discipline, every decision driven by strategy, and every moment fueled by the desire to finish strong. In the end, I did not just manage the game—I owned it, proving that preparation and heart are the true champions.” Male revealed.
UPDF ended with 21 points with a goal difference of 157 (540 scored and 383 conceded).
Prisons (16), Makerere University (11), Police (8), Uzalendo (5) and Evergreen (0) were the other male teams in the league.
The national handball league was played at the Old Kampala Sports Arena.
