The Las Vegas Grand Prix is the most expensive event for Formula 1 fans – but the best seat may be in a Canadian’s basement.
F1‘s race along the Vegas strip remains a sight to behold but one man has made sure he won’t be missing out on the glamour at home.
F1 returns to Nevada this week for the start of an end-of-season triple-header, as Max Verstappen closes in on a fourth world title.
Hotel prices are already going at six times the normal rate, and the city’s world-famous casinos are creating packages that even billionaire Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff might think are too steep.
The Bellagio, for example, who are the official partner, boast hospitality packages ranging in price from $3,500 to $12,500.
This includes access to the Red Bull energy station, and the Bellagio Fountain Club, which is situated above the Vegas racetrack.
However, Las Vegas won’t just be one of F1’s most expensive races, but one of its coldest too, due to the 10pm local time start.
So with the temperature and cost in mind, one fan has come up with the best possible alternative.
Instagram user @gameroomtheater, whose bio claims to ‘help make your gameroom/ mancave/ home theatre epic with DIY upgrades’, has showcased his set-up for the Nevada event, and it’s completely astonishing.
What looks like a normal house descends into a cave of sports haven with a timing screen outside sampling what is behind the door.
Opening it up and walking down, the viewer then gets a look at a putting green, pool table, and table tennis table.
Fittingly for the Vegas race, there is also a poker table.
Delving even further an extraordinary glut of screens, on-boards and timing screens are then seen.
Speaking in a video last year, the user said: “I’m going to be hosting the Vegas event in a couple of weeks, so here goes.
“As you descend it just hits you, the sensory overload, exactly how I like it.
“On the jumbotron, I’ve got live positions of the drivers on the track and then eight of my favourite drivers’ in-car footage.
Turning around the multitude of games are shown, and then a giant driver tracker, before a right hand turn into a cinema room.
The user continues: “At the back, because I’ve got this giant screen, I like using the animations of the live driver positions.
“And if the rest is just a sensory overload, this is a more focused space and more comfortable.
“You still get some live information there and then three in-car footage, but the audio quality in the theatre is just incredible.”
All of that, and a cool $12.5k still in your bank account!
