The curtains come down to the 2024 national rally championship with the season finale scheduled for this weekend in Hoima district.
Will it be Jas Mangat or Ronald Sebuguzi crowned the 2024 national rally champion?
The two drivers have thrown the season ender into a a three-way title thriller as they give their last shot at the title.
Only three points separate Mangat and Sebuguzi. Both are eyeing a fourth national title.
But what are the odds like?
Jas Mangat/Enoch Olinga (Hyundai i20)
Mangat clearly exhibited his intent for the title at the beginning of the season. The arrival of his new car; Hyundai affirmed his pursuit for yet another title.
The Pili pili rally crew has won all the events they have participated in this year. Even after missing two events, the crew finds itself at the top of the table ahead of the season finale.
His pace, preparation and strategy has never been doubted. He is the most approved driver in Uganda considering all race aspects.
Putting all what the team stands for, Mangat remains the favorite to win the title. The team needs to finish ahead of the chasing Sebuguzi.
Ronald Sebuguzi/Anthony Mugambwa (Ford Fiesta Proto)
Another three-time champion closer to a fourth title.
Although he did not have a good start to the season, Sebuguzi found some lucky, picking up points where others dropped. That has seen him ecure a second position with three points behind Mangat.
At this point, the Shell crew can feel the title closer to them, but yet still far until the last final finish.
Sebuguzi will need the pace, the strategy and luck to finish ahead of Mangat; and that will guarantee him a fourth NRC title.
Sebuguzi has come close before.
This year however is the closest with the smallest margin separating him and the championship leader.
Moustapha Mukasa/Geofrey Serwoga-Mitsubishi Evo IX
Mukasa comes as the underdog this weekend.
Mukasa has had an amazing rally season. He is without a doubt one of the highlights of the season. It is this season that he registered his maiden podium finish in NRC as well as topping the NRC leaderboard.
All was going well with the Drug Express crew, until the penultimate round; a non finish in Gulu rally was a blow to the title chase.
They start the rally with 35points behind the leader Mangat. A huge gap but considerably realistic chance at the title.
With two teams to beat, Mukasa will hope for lady luck to be on his side as a non-finish for the two crews head of him the standings will guarantee the title.
The Top three crews ahead of the finale.
Jas Mangat 260.0
Ronald Sebuguzi 257.0
Moustapha Mukasa 225.0
The battle lines are drawn and the fraternity only awaits the champion.
