The Kinyara sugar estate in Masindi covers a total area of 11,000 hectares.
The company employs over 6000 people, supporting approximately 30,000 families and auxiliary businesses.
Among the 6000 people working at Kinyara Sugar factory is a one, Jimmy Ogweng.
Ogweng is a father of three and his oldest son is Elvis Obote.
Obote is now 13 years-old and an upcoming young golfer at the par-71 Kinyara Golf Club.
He currently serves as a caddie at the club which held its 26th signature tournament; the Kinyara Golf open.
Obote, like many aspiring young golfers yearns to make a bold mark in the sport especially after he acquired a golf kit with the different clubs from a passionate member.
“I want to become a professional golfer in future. Every day, I work hard to improve my game and play the best game whenever given the opportunity” Obote dreams aloud.
The caddying role for Obote commenced in 2019 when he was aged 7 years old and has lived to improve his favourite putting and driving shots.
“I love to drive off the tee-box and putt on the greens. These are my two favourite shots. I also look forward improving the other aspects of my game to become better” Obote adds.
Obote is currently in P5 class at Kinyara Sugar Works primary school and after a successful education journey, he looks forward becoming a pilot.
In class, he is a big fan of mathematics and science subjects.
Obote’s best golfer is professional Brian Toolit.
