Floyd Mayweather has already cast an easy prediction if Jake Paul was to fight Canelo Alvarez.
Paul recently defeated 58-year-old heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in a huge event, which saw him pick up his eleventh professional win.
After the fight, the ‘Problem Child’ renewed his plan to 168lbs unified world champion and boxing superstar Alvarez.
He has regularly made it his challenge to lure the Mexican into a huge mega-fight, insisting he plans to take the sport seriously and become a world champion.
But Alvarez’s former conqueror Mayweather, who beat him in September 2013, believes it will be extremely one-sided.
“He’d get f***ed up by Canelo,” Mayweather told TMZ Sports.
“There’s no way [he would win] he’d get demolished.”
He added on Paul’s career: “Jake Paul, I mean as of right now for what he’s doing, it’s good for what he’s doing but once he fights a real actual fighter, it’s going to be bad.
“One thing I do like about him, he’s selling it and he’s making good money and he’s entertaining, I like it.”
Alvarez is currently in the top ten of the pound-for-pound rankings and has shared the ring with a star-studded list of greats.
He has previously refused to shut the door on a fight with Paul despite his inexperience.
Alvarez and Paul could generate huge commercial interest again, and both be set for lucrative paydays if the fight was to be made.
It would currently be unlikely given Paul does not yet have a world ranking, and would need to fight genuine opponents for the fight to be sanctioned.
There is a significant size difference between the pair too, with Alvarez campaigning at 168lbs, while Paul weighed in at over 200lbs for his recent meeting with Tyson.
Despite the hurdles, Paul’s co-promoter Nakisa Bidarian believes the fight could be a realistic option in the near future.
“We just put on the biggest event since the advent of cable for combat sports, right?” Bidarian said on The Ariel Helwani Show.
“Jake Paul doesn’t need Canelo from a financial perspective nor from a belt perspective, because they’re not going to fight for the belts that Canelo holds if they were to fight.
“Canelo certainly doesn’t need Jake Paul to make money either. For me, if that fight was to happen, it has to be more than that.
“It has to be a desire to once again have the world stop and pay attention to this beautiful sport of boxing.
“Have the world look at it and say, ‘Wow, boxing is really back,’ and really bring other fighters into the fold there to help bring exposure to the sport like we just did with [Paul vs. Tyson].
“The hurdle isn’t going to be money. There’s so much money in that fight.
“The hurdle is both sides understanding why they’re really doing it, if they end up doing it.”
