Honourable James Jimmy Akena put aside his role as a Member of Parliament and stepped in the role of the President of the Motorsport governing body(FMU) to present the motocross team to the August house on Wednesday.
The MX team participated in the Motocross of African nations in Morocco last month; securing second position overall behind the regional giants South Africa.
Uganda also registered individual success in the respective categories.
Stav Orland who was absent for the visit won the MX2 class; defending his title. Ramathan Mubiru was the best performing Ugandan in the MX65 while Hellena Birungi was the best female among the junior class.
The visit to the Parliament is in the spirit to recognise the government funds given to the federation.
The house also resolved that the Parliamentary Commission pays school fees for the two junior riders who were presented until the completion of their advanced education.
While Hon.Akena was in Parliament, a letter ordering his management team’s dissolution surfaced.
Addressed to the National Council of Sports, the Inspectorate of Government wants administrative changes in the motorsport federation and a stoppage of government funding.
The IG says that the FMU Management headed by Mr Akena is illegally in office.
The obudemans’ office based their order on a High Court ruling in July this year quashing a decision by the FMU Management and Excom to call an Extra Ordinary meeting.
FMU has however laid out communication from the sports council that notified the IG of the elective process undertaken in May this year.
The NCS is expected to reaffirm the same communication in its response to the IG letter.
Controversy over governance has been brewing in the motorsport discipline since December 2023.
Factions displeased with the operations have since run to the IG seeking redress.
