Ugandan champions City Oilers and Burundian side Urunani have already qualified for the semifinals of the Road to BAL East Division tournament.

However, with hosts Nairobi City Thunder topping Group A, there is a top spot to play for in the clash between Oilers and Urunani at Kasarani Indoor Arena.

The Oilers are the only team in the East Division with BAL experience and their clash is the most anticipated on the final day of group play. The match-up is a repeat of the Elite 16 East Division Semis from two years ago where the Ugandans won 71-62.

Andrew Tendo’s charges have not needed to hit second gear so far. The side opened their campaign with a commanding 77-47 performance against Fox Basketball from South Sudan, followed by an 83-73 win against Zambia’s Matero Magic.

Meanwhile, Urunani dominated the Zambians in the 87-34 win but gritted their teeth to see off Fox Basketball 70-61 in what was a tough game.

Against Oilers who will probably hit second gear, Mamadou Pabi Gueye’s Urunani will have to be better than they looked against Fox to compete in the matchup. Shooting guard Jean-Jacques Boissy who is averaging just under 25 points and forward Mohamed Doumbya along with Marcus Crawford will be the go-to guys for production while Nkosinathi Sandile Sibanyoni will be tasked with cleaning the glass.

Oilers, chasing a third consecutive ticket to BAL, have Parrish Petty, Falando Jones and Israel Otobo to bank on for production along with Germaine Roebuck Jr who is also the defensive anchor of the side.
