Randy Moss shared a ‘personal update’ as he opened ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown this weekend.
The NFL legend and Hall of Fame wide receiver explained that he is battling a health issue that will require him to wear glasses while appearing on television.
“Well good morning. I just wanted to share something with you all,” Moss, 47, began at the top of the show.
“I put a post up a few minutes ago on Instagram just telling people – you were talking about my eyes last week – and I just want to let the viewers know that me and my wife, me and my family, we are battling something internally.
“I have some great doctors around me. I couldn’t miss the show, I wanted to be here with you guys.
“I feel great, but if you all see me with these Michigan turnover glasses that I have on, it’s not being disrespectful because I’m on television.
“I’m battling something, I need all the prayer warriors. God bless you all and thanks for the prayers.”
After Moss made his announcement, fans were quick to take to social media to share their support.
“Prayers up to Randy Moss this Sunday. Hope what he’s going through passes with a speed of light,” one person said.
Another wrote: “Prayers up for Randy Moss. Great guy. Hope his family is OK.”
“Randy Moss, you got this!” a third added.
It wasn’t just fans wishing Moss well, with the rest of the ESPN cast putting on sunglasses in a sweet moment of solidarity after the NFL legend revealed his news.
“It’s beautifully said. All for one and one for all. If he’s wearing glasses, we’re all wearing glasses today,” NFL Countdown host Mike Greenberg said.
Ahead of his appearance on the show, Moss also shared an update with his fans on Instagram.
“Throughout the week of the holidays, your boy has been battling something internal,” he said.
“I just ask for all the prayer warriors to put their blessings on me and my family in these hard times.
“People were asking about my eyes last week. If you see these on Sunday NFL Countdown (puts on glasses), Adam Schefter calls them the Michigan turnover glasses that they sent from Ohio last night.
“Your boy is going to get through it. I got a great team of doctors, and I got a great family around me. Y’all do your checkups, get your bloodwork done, and we’ll work through it.”
Last week, a number of viewers had shared their concerns for Moss online after his eyes appeared yellow.
Considered one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history, Moss played with the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers during a storied career.
