Bwanika, Kisakye drive home after potting to glory | 2024 Nile Special national pool championship

2024 Nile Special National Pool Open championship:

Winners:

  • Men: Mansoor “Muto” Bwanika
  • Ladies: Marion “Sheila Ankah” Kisakye

Mansoor “Muto” Bwanika and Marion “Sheila Ankah” Kisakye emerged as the overall male and female respective winners of the 2024 Nile Special National pool open championship played at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, Kampala.

Bwanika clinched his second national title following earlier success in 2018 whilst Kisakye claimed her first ever title.

The two winners emerged from the bigger cast of 120 male and 32 female players who graced the national championships witnessed by a mammoth passionate crowd.

Each of the overall winners were rewarded with trophies, Toyota Mark brand new cars and cash (Ug.Shs 5,000,000 for Bwanika and Ug.Shs 3,000,000 for Kisakye).

The scintillating male finale witnessed Bwanika overcome Ibra Ssejjemba 7-6 (on time rule).

“I am honoured for winning my second national title. It has taken belief and determination with hard work of course to achieve this” a happy Bwanika revealed.

At the semi-final level, Bwanika eliminated Joseph Kasozi whilst Ssejjemba got the better of Simon “Computer” Lubuulwa.

For the females, it was an easy ride for Kisakye after triumphing 5-2 in the one sided final.

“I have been patient for this victory. I thank God in a special way. I also want to thank my husband and other managers for the support time over and again” Kisakye who is also the current Kings and Queens champion sighed.

Kisakye had bundled out Julie Namuhanga 7-2 in the one-way semi-final with Nganda ejecting Brendah Nasasira.

At the quarter final stage, Kisakye eliminated former pool queen Angela Busingye.

Nganda had also seen off the defending champion Rukia Naiga in the quarter finals.

The males’ top eight were; champion Bwanika, Ssejjemba, Kasozi, Lubulwa, Kenneth Odong, Moses Omara, Dan Mubiru and Azali Lukomwa.

The female quarterfinalists were Marion Kisakye (champion), Aminah Nganda, Brenda Nasasira, Julie Namuhanga, Rukia Naiga, Ritah Nimusiima, Angella Busingye and Zaimati Nabafu.

The grand finale drew a capacity crowd that included the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) president Dr. Donald Rukara, National Council of Sports (NCS) General Secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel, sports commissioner Sam Odong, Pool Association of Uganda active and former officials led by the chairman Bob Trubish and others.

Muto Mansoor and Ankah Sheillah Congratulations on a well-deserved performance. Ibra Ssejemba and Amina Faith hard luck on the tough loss. Thank you everyone who was in Lugogo for the various positive contribution you made. As the Executive committee, we will undertake a detailed review of the execution of this 2024 championship from the stages of mou venue survey to minis to regionals to the grand finale and we will address any areas for improvement starting in next years event plus we will continue the best practices which we need to continue. All the 160 players at the nationals, thank you for the talent shown and hard luck to all who did not emerge in the top performers. All the PAU 48 members who attended we are grateful. All former PAU Executive committee leaders thank you for attending including especially all former Chairmen.
