Stephen A Smith accused Dan Orlovsky of ‘making no sense’ as he voiced his opinion on the Philadelphia Eagles during a hilarious segment on First Take.
Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley impressed again as Philly won their eighth-straight NFL game on Sunday, securing a 24-19 road win against the Baltimore Ravens to move to 10-2 this season.
With a 25-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, which turned out to be the game-winner, Barkley strengthened his case for the MVP award.
Hurts, meanwhile, continues to receive plaudits for his game management as Philadelphia looks set to make a deep playoff run.
Orlovsky is one of the analysts seemingly blown away by their efforts and after an important win over the Ravens, he shared high praise for the Eagles.
“At worst, they’re the second best team in football. The best team in football is the Detroit Lions still, but Philadelphia is right on their heels,” he said, when host Molly Qerim asked if Philadelphia could be considered the best in the NFC.
While that’s not exactly an outrageous take, Smith took issue with Orlovsky as he had previously suggested the Kansas City Chiefs will get back to the Super Bowl this year.
“You make no sense sometimes, and no matter how smart you are about football,” he said, cutting Orlovsky off.
“I keep trying to tell a brother he can’t hide from me. I’ve been watching you on NFL live bro, and I see the things that you say.
“On one hand, you’ve got the Kansas City Chiefs, and then you’re talking about the Detroit Lions. Correct me if I’m wrong, that’s two teams?
“But you say the Eagles are the second best team in football?”
Qerim also suggested that Orlovsky was ‘being a little hypocritical’ by offering the Eagles such praise after suggesting that the Chiefs will make the Super Bowl for a third-straight year.
As he was taking heat from his colleagues, Orlovsky moved to clarify his position.
“So one, the Lions and Eagles play in the NFC, the Chiefs in the AFC. I have said for weeks that the Lions are the best team in football – two things can be true – but you’ve got to beat the Chiefs when it’s win or go home,” he said.
“This isn’t Week 14 of the NFL season, you have to knock (Patrick) Mahomes out. That is my point on Kansas City.
“At worst, the Eagles are the second best team in football. I think they’re a better team than the Chiefs. But if it comes to it, in the Super Bowl, you’ve got to go and beat (the Chiefs) when it matters most.”
Orlovsky concluded by suggesting the Eagles are a ‘phenomenal’ team and will be Super Bowl contenders if they can avoid starting games slowly.
With a 10-2 record, the Eagles take on the Carolina Panthers next in Week 14 as they continue their march towards the playoffs.
