16 confirmed teams, pools for the 2024 mental health awareness sports gala | Gulu Edition

Under the theme “Championing youth resilience”, the inaugural edition of the Gulu city Mental health sports gala shall take place on Saturday, 7th December 2024 at Pece War Memorial Stadium, Gulu.

The gala will be in honour of female and male outstanding personalities who have been in mental health recovery with significant impact in the community.

Sixteen teams duly confirmed to take part in this gala whose winner will take home Ug.Shs 1,000,000.

The teams have been divided into four groups; A, B, C and D.

In group A; TPO Uganda, PTM Foundation, Life Skills Foundation and Stress Clinic.

Whitaker PDI, GMEIU, HAF Uganda and Pole Clinical Laboratories make up group B.

Group C is composed of Gulu Soccer Legends, Ability Sports, The Super Bullets and Light Ray Uganda.

For group D, there is Sama Titans, PACTA Uganda, Bomah Hotel and U-Touch.

This event is organized by Gracy Minds Empowerment Initiative Uganda, a follow up from the Kampala edition which took place at Legends Rugby grounds, Naguru in August 2024.

There is an assortment of sports activities that will take center stage to include football, netball, tag-of-war as the out-door disciplines with several mind games like chess, scrabble, checkers and puzzle competitions.

According to Grace Omona, the founder of Gracy Minds Empowerment Initiative Uganda, the edition will be used as a platform to extend a number of services to the people as free pad distribution to young girls and women, Mental Health screening & counseling, medical consultation, eye & dental check-ups, hepatitis vaccination and blood donation.

Format of play:

The format of play will be 7 players per side with every team in the competition expected to have 14 players.

A team will field six male players and one female, according to the rules.

Prizes:

The winning team shall take home Ug.Shs 1,000,000, a trophy and gold medals.

The first runners up will go with silver medals and Ug.Shs 500,000.
