
The Uganda Taekwondo family is full of praise for the support acquired from the Korean Embassy in Uganda for the promotion of this game in the country.
Marvin Baryaruha, the president of Uganda Taekwondo Federation showered special praise to the Korea Embassy for the diligent work executed in the year 2024 and before.

“We are humbled for the special contribution and support from the Embassy of Korea towards developing Taekwondo in Uganda. This has been through capacity building via training of players and officials, provision of equipment and other means” Baryaruha revealed.
Baryaruha made the remarks as he addressed Taekwondo players from Police and UPDF, the media and other invited guests at Fairway Hotel during the Taekwondo promotion program (TP assessment.
During this event, the Korean Embassy in Uganda was handing over certificates to the Taekwondo players from Police after a month of training.


Kwang Joo Kim, a Taekwondo Dispatch Master tagged the entire training regime as one of victory.
“I thank all who have completed the training. It has been a journey of mental resilience and physical fitness. This is victory for all of you” Master Kim revealed.

Police was ably represented by a big delegation led by the head of sports in the institution, ASP Abu Kalule.
ASP Kalule hinted of the bold commitment to remain inclined towards sports promotion.
“Uganda Police will always remain a hub for sports. We are focused towards great recruitment and development of talents” ASP Kalule added.



Yi Seunghee, the second secretary of the Korean Embassy in Uganda commented of the series of programs that they have organized to promote Taekwondo in Uganda since May 2024 with the support from Korea Taekwondo Promotion Foundation.
Such programs include a Workshop for Taekwondo System Improvement (30th May, 2024), Poomsae Training (September to October 2024), Police Taekwondo Club Training (September to October 2024) and UPDF Training (November 2024 and onwards).


The ceremony was also graced by National Council of Sports’ official Ivan Niwamanya.
Niwamanya commended the effort of Uganda Taekwondo Federation to grow the sport with valid statistics as increase in competitive clubs from 15 in 2017 to 41 at the moment; and the swelling of players’ numbers from 95 in 2015 to now 412 in 2024.




Besides the Police team, there was also representation from UPDF team, Uganda Taekwondo Federation, National Council of Sports (NCS), Makerere University and the media.
