Why Denis Omedi’s Rabona goal deserves to win the Fifa Puskas Award

Denis Omedi believes his rabona goal deserves to win to the 2025 FIFA Puskas Award.

The Kitara and Uganda Cranes forward against all odds earned global recognition for the strike against KCCA in the Fufa Super 8 quarter final clash at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo.

In an interview with Fifa, Omedi says the fact that the goal came from Uganda, the technique and execution is why it should be the winner.

“The most remarkable aspect that I feel can justify this goal for the prestigious award is the technique, the execution, the power, and above all, where the goal has come from,” Omedi told Fifa.com.

“The goal has come from Uganda. The goal was manufactured in Uganda. The man from Kitara Football Club, based in Hoima. And I come from the city of Lira. I can say that my country has entered into the history books of FIFA.”

Omedi up against World’s elite footballers that include among others Manchester United wonderkid Alejandro Garnacho and Westham United Ghanian midfielder Muhamad Kudus and this alone gives him satisfaction.

“To me personally, I feel history has really been made, both for me, Kitara Football Club, Uganda, and to all the sport lovers in this country and the whole world.

“To be alongside top players like [Alejandro] Garnacho and [Mohammed] Kudus, that is really a very special moment [for me]. This sets a very big platform for me as a player who is in top, top league. I believe a goal like this and being nominated for an award like this is a very special moment for me.”
