Vipers assume League summit with hard-fought win over struggling Bright Stars

Vipers SC moved top of the table in the Uganda Premier League after edging Soltilo Bright Stars FC 2-1 on Saturday at Kavumba Recreation Centre.

The Venoms secured a 2-1 win to dislodge NEC FC from the top of the pile.

Gusto Mulongo and Allan Okello scored a goal each for Vipers SC while defender Warren Buule got the consolation for Soltilo Bright Stars FC.

Vipers were impressive especially in the first half and took the lead as early as the 15th.

Mulongo was at the end of Moses Waiswa’s delivery from a corner kick and when goalkeeper Shamuran Kamya fumbled with the ball.

Okello continued with his impressive form, doubling the lead for the Venoms from close range.

He finished off a well worked team move with Karim Watambala setting him up.

At the half hour mark, the hosts got one back through Buule who capitalized on a goal melee to slot home.

Bright Stars nearly got the equalizer in the second half but Nelson Senkatuka was denied by the upright.

The visitors held on in the closing stages to claim all three points and move top of the log on 24 points.

Soltilo Bright Stars FC on the other hand remain bottom of the table on 6 points.
