I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series 2024 (Grand finale)

Overall winners:

  • Men: Herbert Kamuntu – 65 points
  • Women: Bridget Basima – 69 points

The grand finale of the 2024 I&M Bank Katogo Golf series held on Saturday, 7th December lived to its anticipated billing at the lake side par-71 Entebbe club.

Played under the format “Double Bogey Danger”, over 200 golfers from the different clubs in the country took part.

Herbert Kamuntu and Bridget Basima emerged as overall winners at the exciting season finale.

Kamuntu claimed the men’s overall prize with a net score of 65 points, while Basima topped the ladies’ category with 69 points, on count back.

Each of the overall winners won a an I&M Bank gift hamper, as well as a RwandAir return ticket and shall have to choose a destination of their choice from Dubai, Johannesburg, Nairobi, or Kigali.

The series season finale, played under the ‘Double Bogey Danger’ format, attracted close to 200 golfers from various clubs across the country, who came together to cap off the season of what has become one of the most sought-after events on Uganda’s golf calendar.

“Winning my first-ever overall title feels very exciting, but also a bit overwhelming, because I know I now have to maintain a certain level of play every time I step on the course,” said Kamuntu, the Vice Chairman of Mary Louise Simpkins Memorial Golf Club, Namulonge.

“The double bogey format was quite interesting. My strategy was to avoid a double bogey in the first three holes, focusing on game management and playing it safe,” he added.

In his speech, I&M Bank Executive Director and Chief Operations Officer, Sam Ntulume, who represented CEO Robin Bairstow, attributed the success of the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series to the collective effort and participation of all stakeholders.

“I am extremely excited to witness yet another successful edition of the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series. This event has grown to become a significant part of our golf calendar, and that’s because of your effort and participation; thank you,” Ntulume remarked.

Katogo Captain- Elly Kibuka Mukasa aka Sober, expressed gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and organizers, that made the 2024 I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series a success. He emphasized the critical role the series has played in fostering camaraderie among golfers and elevating golf across the region.

“This year’s series has been nothing short of amazing. The enthusiasm from players, the support from I&M Bank and all the other sponsors, and the growing interest from the golfing fraternity, have all contributed to making this season memorable. We look forward to an even bigger and better series next year,” Mukasa remarked.

Other top performers:

Edgar Muzahura, who won the overall gross category after returning a score of 73. He received a RwandAir ticket and a branded umbrella, courtesy of I&M Bank.

In Ladies Group A, Julia Joan Napeewo (69 points) emerged winner, followed by Berna Musanabera (73 points), and Jackie Kamunyu (76 points).

In Ladies Group B, Flora Ihunde emerged winner, followed by Rossette Tugume, and Sandra Komakech.

In Men’s Group A, Dr. Twinemanzi Tumubweine emerged winner, followed by Peter Magona, and Andrew Baguma.

Group B was headlined by Nathan Mubiri, followed by Simon Ondara and Gerard Atemwa.

Edward Gibson Nangono, the I&M Bank Chief Business Officer won the Men’s Group C with 69 points, followed by Ceasor Scott Barole, and Brian Mbasa.

Rwanda calling:

Annette Nakiyaga, the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at I&M Bank, revealed that after its debut in Kenya last month, the series is set to head to Rwanda, with a Kigali leg sometime next year.

“The season has been spectacular. We’ve had twists and turns. Last month, we were at Limuru Country Club in Kenya. We’ve seen ideas well executed, new partners joining us, and now here we are. Next year, we’re adding a Rwandan leg,” Nakiyaga said.

The event was crowned by an electrifying 19th hole experience hosted by Patrick Idringi, aka Salvado.

The legendary Afrigo Band headlined the evening’s performance, and they got golfers and guests dancing until the wee hours of Sunday morning.
