West Ham v Wolves predictions
West Ham head into tonight’s match off the back of consecutive disappointing defeats in their last two matches, conceding five at home against Arsenal in a 5-2 defeat with a desperately discouraging 3-1 defeat at a struggling Leicester side in midweek.
Julen Lopetegui could be just one more bad result away from getting the sack as West Ham manager, having so far failed in his mission to push West Ham back into European contention having taken over from David Moyes’ job in the summer.
The Hammers currently sit wedged in the bottom half of the table in 14th place, eight points shy of the top half of the table and six points clear of the relegation zone, in relative no man’s land.
Wolves, like their opponents tonight, have fallen to heavy defeats in each of their last two matches, having previously appeared to have got their season on track with back-to-back defeats.
Those victories were Gary O’Neil’s side’s first league wins of the season, but conceding four goals in back to back games against Bournemouth and Everton has piled the pressure back on the manager.
The West Midlands side have slipped back to 19th in the Premier League table, currently four points from safety, and another defeat tonight could spell the end of O’Neil’s stint as Wolves manager having taken over the job at the start of last season, taking over from Lopetegui.
O’Neil has lost all four of the matches he’s managed against West Ham, though has won in his only time coming up against Lopetegui on the touchline, beating Wolves while in charge of Bournemouth.
With both sides in desperate need of a victory with both managers seemingly fighting for their job, a cagey match can be expected tonight, which I feel points towards a draw taking place – most likely 1-1.
West Ham v Wolves betting tips
Wolves’ upturn in form prior to their last two results was in large part due to the form of Matheus Cunha, whose three goals and two assists in his last three matches has been have taken his total for the season to 10 goal contributions in 14 starts, more than any other player on either team.
Only three teams have picked up fewer points at their home ground than West Ham this season, while only two teams have picked up fewer points on the road than Wolves, leaving two teams desperately short on confidence colliding, which could lead to a stalemate.
- Matheus Cunha to score – 11/5 at bet365
- Draw and both teams to score – 15/4 at bet365
