Uganda’s Netball National Team, the She Cranes had a disappointing start to the 2024 Africa Netball Cup after suffering defeat at the hands of Zimbabwe on Monday at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund, Namibia
A sloppy start for the She Cranes eventually came haunting as Zimbabwe edged the close contest 50-49.
Uganda led the first quarter 14-12 but the performance was far from convincing.
Zimbabwe grew in confidence to claim the second 13- 10 and went into halftime leading by one goal 25-24).
There was an improved display for Uganda in the third quarter, scoring 15 goals and limiting their opponents to just seven.
However, Zimbabwe did not give up and came back stronger in the fourth and final quarter.
Uganda led up to the final two minutes when Zimbabwe scored six consecutive goals to claim a 50-49 win at the death of the clock.
Uganda will return to action on Wednesday against hosts Namibia before completing Group action against Eswatini two days later.
It should be noted that only the top two teams from each group progress to the semifinals.
The other group has South Africa, Malawi, Kenya and Zambia.
