Phillip Kasozi was the overnight leader of the 2024 Kilelesi grand Kwacha championship played at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa on Monday, 9th December.
Kasozi scored 2-under-70 gross mark after the opening 18 holes of action; with 8 pars, 6 birdies and 4 bogies.
He opened his round with a par score on par-4 hole 1. He bogied the second hole before finding pars on holes 3, 4 and 5.
The opening birdies arrived on the par-4 hole 6 before he scratched hole 7, another birdie on par 5 hole 8 and completed the front with a par score for a 36 score in 9 holes.
He then crossed over to the final 9 holes, commencing brilliantly with a birdie on par 4 hole 10, par score on 11, successive birdies on 12 and 13.
Kasozi bogied par 4 hole 14, scored par on the par-3 hole 15, another boggie on par-4 hole 16, a birdie on 17 and ended the round with a par on the 18.
The reigning Uganda Open amateur champion Joseph Reagan Akena scored level par-72.
Joseph Cwinya-ai was 2-over with 74 gross, whilst Ronald Rugumayo returned 3-over 75.
Titus Okwong had 4-over 76. Okwong grabbed the headlines with an eye-catching hole-in-one shot on the par 3 hole 7, coming after a birdie score on par 4 hole 6.
Others were; Ronald Otile (77), Andrew Ssekibejja (78), Rodell Gaita (81), David Kamulindwa (81), Grace Kasango (81), Davis Kato (82), Lawrence Walakira (82), Walter Tukahirwa (83), Ibra Bagalana (83), Peace Kabasweka (83), Joseph Kasozi (84), Isaac Holly Ogwal (84) and Micheal Tumusiime (85), among others.
The leg at Uganda Golf Club, Kitante will be played on Tuesday, 10th December 2024 before the final showdown at the par-71 lake side Entebbe Club on Wednesday, 11th December 2024.
The Kilelesi Kwacha championship has a mixture of the professionals and the top gross amateur players.
