Samuel Ankunda Mbabazi delivered an exceptional performance at the Jinja Open Table Tennis Tournament held at St. Andrews Hall, Jinja, clinching three prestigious trophies.

Ankunda secured victories in the Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, and Boys’ Singles U-19 categories, solidifying his dominance in the competition.

Speaking to the press after his impressive showing, Ankunda attributed his success to rigorous preparation and unwavering determination.

“We had enough time to prepare, and I’m happy that the hard work eventually paid off. I’ll take the positives from this competition moving forward,” he said.

In the Boys’ Singles U-19 final, Ankunda defeated his teammate, Joseph Sebatindira, in a convincing 3-0 victory. Despite the win, Ankunda admitted it was an emotional match.

“It feels good to win, but it’s not easy facing your teammate. I had mixed feelings because I was happy to win, but it was hard seeing my teammate lose,” Ankunda noted.

“However, I’m glad the trophy stayed within our club. We’ll continue working hard to improve as individuals and as a team,” he added.

In the Men’s Singles final, Ankunda dominated Phillip Napokoli with a 3-0 win before teaming up with Enock to secure the Men’s Doubles title.

On the women’s side, Jemimah Nakawala showcased her talent, defeating Parvin Nangonzi in both the Women’s Singles and the Girls’ Singles U-19 categories.

The Jinja Open Table Tennis Tournament brought together remarkable talent, leaving fans excited for what lies ahead in Ugandan table tennis.

This year’s tournament received a significant boost from City Tyres who provided the trophies and winning prizes to the eventual champions.
