Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona predictions
Barcelona could hardly have asked for a better start to the 2024/25 season.
Eleven of their first 12 La Liga fixtures ended in victory for Hansi Flick’s side, who bounced back from a 2-1 loss to Monaco on matchday one of the Champions League by beating Young Boys, Bayern Munich, Red Star Belgrade and Brest in successive matches.
But while Barcelona are on a four-match winning run in Europe, they are having a tougher time of it domestically. Over the last few weeks they have let Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid back into the title race.
A 1-0 defeat by Real Sociedad prior to the November international break was the start of Barcelona’s downturn. They have now won just one of their last five league games, a sequence that has seen their lead at the top of the table drop to two points. Madrid, who are currently second, will go above Barcelona if they win their game in hand.
Given how many teething problems Carlo Ancelotti’s side have suffered from following the addition of Kylian Mbappe in the summer, Barcelona have really let their arch-rivals off the hook.
Barcelona are at least sitting more comfortably in the Champions League. They are third in the 36-team ranking and are well positioned to qualify directly for the round of 16 by finishing in the top eight.
They are not over the line yet, though, and this trip to Borussia Dortmund will not be straightforward in the slightest. Upcoming clashes with Atalanta and Benfica also look like potential banana skins, so Barcelona must try to leave their domestic woes to one side.
Nuri Sahin was under fire as Borussia Dortmund manager a few weeks back, but he has solidified his position of late. BVB are not in the Bundesliga title race, but they are now just three points outside the top four.
They have saved some of their best performances for this competition, where Dortmund are level on points with Barcelona and just one place below them in fourth.
Aside from a 5-2 defeat by Real Madrid in which they squandered a two-goal lead, Sahin’s charges have won every game in the Champions League. Will they triumph again this week?

Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona betting tips
Two European powers go head-to-head as Borussia Dortmund host Barcelona on Wednesday.
Borussia Dortmund or draw – 4/6
Borussia Dortmund have been akin to Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde at times this term. The thing is, you can predict which version of the team will turn up depending on the venue for the match.
At Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund have been imperious. In all competitions they have won eight games out of nine in front of their own fans. The sole exception was a respectable 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich.

On the road, BVB have found things much more difficult. But since this game is taking place on familiar territory for Dortmund, they should be able to at least avoid defeat.
Barcelona are going through a sticky spell and although their results have held up in Europe, this will be a much sterner test of their credentials than recent meetings with Red Star Belgrade and Brest.
A point may be the best Barcelona can hope for.
Back Borussia Dortmund to win or a draw at 4/6 with Paddy Power
Over 3.5 goals – 11/10
These two teams have been the biggest entertainers in the first five Champions League matchdays of 2024/25.
Barcelona are the leading goal-getters in the tournament having made the net bulge 18 times up to now. With 16 goals to their name, Borussia Dortmund are not far behind their upcoming opponents.
With the raucous crowd behind them at Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund will aim to get after Barcelona.
But the La Liga side should also be able to create their fair share of opportunities. After all, this is a team that is averaging more than three goals per game in all competitions.
There is a high possibility that Dortmund and Barcelona will serve up a classic this week.
Tip over 3.5 goals at 11/10 with Paddy Power
Robert Lewandowski to score any time – 11/10
Robert Lewandowski made his name at Borussia Dortmund. More than a decade has passed since he left the club as a 25-year-old, but the Poland international is still scoring goals at the highest level.
Lewandowski is not as mobile as he once was, but he still has an extraordinary gift in and around the penalty area.
The Barcelona striker scored in the 2-2 draw with Real Betis at the weekend, taking his tally for the campaign to 23 goals in 21 games.
Seven of those strikes have come in the Champions League, where Lewandowski sits third in the all-time goal charts behind only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
In what could be his last ever visit to Signal Iduna Park, Lewandowski will be desperate to find the net.
