Triple H and Kevin Owens were involved in a heated confrontation after Saturday Night’s Main Event went off the air.

WWE went old school this weekend, with the return of the classic show, which had not aired since 2008.

In the main event, Owens challenged Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

After plenty of action, both in and out of the ring, their brutal battle was settled when the champion hit a Cross Rhodes onto a steel chair for the three count.

While Rhodes was victorious, raising the retro ‘Winged Eagle’ belt above his head at the end of the match, Owens ensured he was unable to walk out of the area.

After the show went off the air, the Canadian star launched a shocking attack on his rival, hitting him with a dangerous package piledriver – variations of which have been banned by WWE – before running off with the title.

Footage of the attack, which saw Rhodes taken out of the ring on a stretcher, was first captured by fans before being shared by WWE.

As Owens made his way out of the arena after the incident, he was confronted by real life boss Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque, who met him at the top of the ramp.

Furious with his superstar’s actions, Levesque knocked the belt out of Owens’ hands, before the pair engaged in a shoving match and a stare-down.

They were quickly separated by officials, but footage of their run-in was later shared on social media by WWE.

“Upon leaving gorilla, Triple H got into a confrontation with Kevin Owens,” the company wrote, sparking a frenzy among fans.

“TRIPLE H GETTING PHYSICAL?” one wrote, responding to the video.

“Was this scripted?” another questioned.

“This about to be the hottest storyline going into WrestleMania,” a third concluded.

WWE has used these sorts of incident to blur the lines between kayfabe and reality in recent months, especially around Owens.

Randy Orton suffered a similar fate at the hands of KO last month, and the latest ‘off-air’ moment is another unique way to keep fans engaged with his storylines.

Owens himself responded to the footage of his confrontation with Triple H, taking to social media to ‘correct’ WWE’s short statement.

“Upon leaving gorilla, Triple H enthusiastically thanks Kevin Owens for the house and tells him how proud he is of Kevin for doing what needed to be done and taking what he truly deserves,” he wrote.

“(Triple H) proceeds to invite him over to his house for Christmas dinner and to watch (Saturday Night’s Main Event) back on a 734 inch TV.”

Fans will certainly be interested to see what the next few weeks have in store for Owens.

With WWE sharing videos of his attack on Rhodes and altercation with Triple H, he could be set to face consequences that will no doubt play out on TV.
