The Kansas City Chiefs received an important health update on Patrick Mahomes on Monday.
The reigning Super Bowl MVP was forced to leave Sunday’s 21-7 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
That win pushed Kansas City to an NFL-best 13-1.
But with the Chiefs attempting to become the first team in league history to win three consecutive Super Bowls, a late-season injury to Mahomes is critical to Kansas City’s championship chances in 2024.
It was initially uncertain what Mahomes was dealing with vs the Browns.
Mahomes attempted a pass while getting hit by two defenders and awkwardly bent over.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided an update after the game.
“Patrick’s right ankle has been hurt,” Reid said. “It’s not broken, but it’s sore.
“He’ll get started on the rehab part of it as we go, and we’ll just have to see how he does down the road here.”
On Monday, the Chiefs received an important update about Mahomes’ ankle.
He’s been diagnosed with a ‘mild high-ankle sprain’ following tests, according to NFL Network.
Mahomes is week-to-week, and his playing status Saturday against the Houston Texans remains in doubt.

The Chiefs have all but locked up the No.1 seed in the AFC.
After facing the Texans, Kansas City plays four days later on Christmas Day, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Former Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz could start if Mahomes is kept wrapped up before the playoffs.
He’s struggled with ankle issues before, and had to tough out an injury during a Super Bowl win.
With Netflix, the Chiefs and Christmas all intertwined on December 25, NFL fans believe that Mahomes could miss the Texans game, then return just in time for a huge international streaming event.
“Netflix and the NFL will do everything they can to make sure he plays on Christmas,” one fan tweeted.
“Only mild?” a second fan posted. “That’s the best news (and better) than what it could have been.”
“I’d sit him this week and then see how he is for Christmas game,” a third fan wrote. “And give him limited reps so that he is ready for the most important thing: PLAYOFFS.”
Mahomes is a two-time NFL MVP and holds a 15-3 career record, with a number of unbelievable performances.
He’ll need to be at his best again in January and February if the Chiefs are going to make history.
