Angola’s Cristovao Mabululu won the Goal of the Year award for the year 2024 beating ten African stars including Ugandan Denis Omedi.
In a category purely decided by fans through votes, Mabululu’s goal scored against Namibia in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2023 was overwhelmingly voted as it garnered 121,192 votes.
Omedi’s rabona goal against KCCA in the Fufa Super 8 was voted 13,766 times but could only be 5th in the rankings as per the votes.
Wassam Abou Ali goal versus TP Mazembe for Al Ahly was in second place followed by Yassine Benzi goal for Algeria versus South Africa in FIFA Series 2024, Said Benrahma’s goal against Togo in the Afcon 2025 qualifiers and Sebastien Haller’s winner in the Afcon 2023 final against Nigeria the other goals ahead of Omedi’s exquisite goal.
Omedi will now hope his goal gets the due recognition in the forthcoming FIFA Puskas Award where it is also nominated.
