If there’s one guy who knows a thing or two about playing wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, it’s Jerry Rice.
When the greatest wide receiver in the history of the National Football League speaks, you listen.

The Hall of Famer shared his thoughts on Deebo Samuel after another poor performance from the wide receiver, that included a key drop, in another 49ers loss in what appears to be a lost season.
Samuel had publicly complained about not getting enough touches, only to lay another egg, which didn’t sit right with Rice.
“I don’t know what is going on, because the weirdest thing is I think he had like three catches for 16 yards … for me, I would have been p*****,” Rice said during an appearance on 95.7 The Game’s ‘The Morning Roast.’
“I would have been p***** at myself, I would have been p***** at the whole scenario, and I would pretty much go to work on the football field, at practice.
“And if you do it during practice, you’re going to be able to do it during the game.”
Rice wasn’t done.
“That ball that he dropped, after you complain about not getting that many touches, you cannot drop the football,” Rice said.
“Because everybody is going to get down on you and they’re going to come after you.
“I never said anything about not getting touches or anything like that.
“I just worked, man. I just kept working, and if you show it during practice, they’re going to make the call during the actual football game where you’re going to have opportunities, where you can make catches, get into a rhythm and be productive.”
Samuels drop snowballed into another losing effort to drop the 49ers to 6-8[/caption]
It’s clear that Rice has heard enough of Samuel and everyone else on the 49ers taking to the media to complain, to only then not show up when it counts.
All Rice did in his career was work, and that’s all he’s asking his former team to do.
Put your head down, and go to work.
A year after making it to the Super Bowl, San Francisco now sits at 6-8 with an extremely low chance of making it to the postseason.
It has been a season from hell with injuries being a key factor in their slide.
And now former legends of the franchise are starting to raise their voices and frustrations on the current players.
That’s never a good look, but when Rice speaks, you listen.
And he’s made his feelings crystal clear. It’s on Samuel to listen.
This season may be lost, and next year’s team is going to look a lot different than the year’s version, especially after quarterback Brock Purdy gets paid, but there’s still a lot to play for.
We’ll see if the 49ers have completely thrown in the towel over the next three weeks.
One thing is for sure, Rice will be watching.
