- Hamz stadium, Nakivubo 6pm
Uganda Cranes take on Burundi in the first of back-to-back fixtures at Nakivubo stadium with the latter seeking to qualify for the Africa Nations Championship early next year.
Uganda is already qualified as co-host alongside Kenya and Tanzania and thus the two matches will gauge the readiness of the players and impress head coach Paul Put to be selected for the final tournament.
The Cranes have been part of all but one CHAN tournament but have never progressed beyond group stages and that will be first major goal.
Back to the Burundi game, the tactician believes his players have been prepared well for the clash and are motivated to do well although it is more of a dead rubber on the Cranes’ side.
“We’ve worked very hard in a short period of time to prepare the team,” Put told reporters in a pre-match conference.
“We’ve brought in many new players, but I’m glad they’ve been adaptive and ready. The players are motivated and focused, eagerly waiting for the match.”
Burundi had to face Somalia in the preliminary round but got a bye to the stage after the withdraw of Somalis from the tournament.
Probable XI: Ssebwalunyo (GK), Gavin, Ndahiro, Walusimbi, Odong, Sserunjogi, Okello, Mayanja, Karisa, Nana, Ssemugabi
