The festive season is one period world-over of merry making and special celebrations.
This was the same in the West Nile region district of Zombo as thousands of football lovers thronged the Sema Yote stadium (Arago playgrounds) for the “Peter’s Christmas” cup.
Congambe Hot Stars emerged champions after overcoming Kailebe Super United 1-0 goal in the final, also watched by district sports officials, political, cultural, religious leaders, and communities’ members.
The final was played on Christmas day at Sema Yote Stadium (Arago playgrounds) in Congambe Parish Jangokoro sub-county Zombo district.
The competition brought together seven established community football clubs to showcase local talents in greater Jangokoro, Zombo District; including, Congambe Hot Stars (Jangokoro sub-county), Kailebe Super United (Jangokoro sub-county) Mavura Green Light (Athuma), Yima Big Talent (Akaa sub-county), Green Savannah (Jangokoro sub-county), Bright Wave (Jangokoro sub-county) and Red Scorpion (Jangokoro sub-county) respectively.
The organizers noted that the game intended to promote talent among youth and keeping youth active for next year fourth division and firth divisions (DFA) and West Nile regional league respectively.
Paskal Ozelle, Chairperson Organizing committee game, noted that they planned this championship to prepare clubs which are playing in the 4th and 5th divisions alike.
Zombo district Chairman Competitions, Nickson Yoacel, said this game brought confidence in the DFA and promised that next year DFA games will be played at “Seme Yote Stadium”.
Yoacel, observed that this year Zombo district and FUFA trained coaches which has boosted the quality of grass root football adding that separate football for Christmas was played in Warr town council.
“I thank the organizers for these games; I am here with you but the district sports officer is also in Warr town council for similar competition.” Yoacel remarked.
Gabriel Ukumu, MP for Okoro County in Zombo district supported the seven clubs with shillings 100,000 each and a set of jerseys and a trophy for the championship as well as motivation rewards to talents.
The items were handed to the club by Tito Ocamringa, Chairperson team leader of MP Ukumu.
Meanwhile the LC III Chairman for Jangokoro sub-country Charles Okecha has encouraged youth to ensure they perfect their talents in athletics, football, music and farming and others to earn living.
