Total Energies Chan 2024 Qualifiers (Return Leg):

  • Uganda 1-0 Burundi

*Uganda wins 2-0 on aggregate

Uganda Cranes completed a double over Burundi in the 2024 Total Energies Championship of African Nations (Chan) qualifiers.

This followed a 1-0 victory in the return leg played at the Hamz Stadium (Nakivubo war memorial grounds) on Sunday, 29th December 2024.

Super substitute Hakim Kiwanuka scored with a heavily deflected free kick past goalkeeper Dieudonne Ntibahezwa deep in injury time for maximum points before a handful of fans.

Kiwanuka, who features for the reigning champions Sports Club Villa had replaced team captain Allan Okello in the 71st minute during one of the double changes.

Ivan Ahimibisibwe was the other player introduced for Isaac Ogwang with 20 minutes to play.

Patrick Jonah Kakande shone brightest in the second stanza of the game, moments after being introduced for Jude Ssemugabi at the start of the final 45 minutes.

Ssemugabi had struggled in the first half with a couple of knocks from the opponents.

Uganda Cranes thus eliminated Burundi with a 2-0 aggregate score, having also won 1-0 in the away contest, too, played at the Hamz stadium.

During the first leg, Ogwang scored the all-important goal in Uganda Cranes’ victory.

The 2024 Chan tournament will be played in January to February 2025; hosted by three East African countries – Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
