Newcastle have got themselves back in the race for a Champions League spot after four straight league wins, as they prepare to face Tottenham in Saturday’s early kick-off.

The Magpies have not only won their last four games, but they have also not conceded a goal during that run, which has seen them move up to fifth.

In contrast, Spurs have collected just one point from their last three games and there is more scrutiny on Ange Postecoglou and his position at the helm.

Magpies can make a statement

Just two wins between the end of September and early December left Newcastle way off the pace and with questions being asked about the future of Eddie Howe.

The Magpies look to have proved the doubters wrong though and now sit above the likes of Man City and Aston Villa heading into the New Year.

They are six places and eight points ahead of Tottenham ahead of their latest trip to the capital, with Spurs currently slipping into the bottom half.

It’s just one league win in seven for the Lilywhites and they are without a league victory on home turf since November 3rd.

Injuries have undoubtedly taken their toll on the Spurs squad, especially at the back, with Postecoglou’s men conceding 15 goals in their last five home league games.

The hosts are still without several key players and in their current run of form, Newcastle certainly have the ability to make Spurs suffer again.

Victory would give Howe’s side a league double over Tottenham, having won 2-1 at St James’ Park back in September.

Isak out to be the hero again

Alexander Isak scored the winner when the two teams met earlier in the season and he has an impressive record against Saturday’s opponents.

The Swedish striker has bagged five goals in the last four meetings between the two teams and goes into this clash in red-hot form.

Isak has netted eight in the last six league games, which takes his tally to 12 for the season and makes him the Premier League’s joint third-top goalscorer.

With the likes of Mickey Van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies still sidelined for Spurs, Isak looks likely to have plenty of chances to add to his tally.

11/2 shot looks good value

Both teams have scored in each of the last nine Tottenham home matches in all competitions, with a 2-2 draw the result in Spurs’ last match, against Wolves on December 29th.

BTTS has also come in nine of the last 10 meetings between these two teams, with a 4-1 win for Tottenham in this fixture last season.

Spurs sit second in the Premier League corner stats with 150 won in 19 games, which is an average of 7.89 per game.

Only four top-flight players have had more yellow cards than Joelinton this season, with the Brazilian cautioned on six occasions.

It’s worth noting that one of those bookings came in the return fixture at St James’ Park.
