QPR v Luton prediction

The final match of the Championship weekend takes place at Loftus Road tonight as QPR take on a Luton in a big battle between two sides dwelling in the bottom half of the table.

There’s not much to separate the two sides the bookies’ prices but QPR are being judged to be the marginal favourites ahead of tonight’s match in front of their home fans, having put together a strong run of form since the end of November and are surging up the Championship table.

Marti Cifuentes’ side fell to rock bottom of the table following a 2-0 defeat by Leeds just before the November international break, but the west London side have since lost just one of their 10 matches since, which includes winning each of their last four home games.

The rapid increase in form has seen the Rs climb up to 16th place in the Championship table ahead of tonight, and know that a win will take them into 13th and within just a couple of points of the top half of the table.

Luton, meanwhile, make the short trip to the capital tonight having lost four of their last five matches, including each of their last three, piling huge pressure on manager Rob Edwards.

The Hatters were tipped as one of the favourites to be promoted at the start of the season after their 18th placed finish in the Premier League last season, but their recent run of defeats has seen them drop to 20th place and within two points of the relegation zone.

The Bedfordshire side have managed to improve their home form of late, but can’t seem to find any sort of formula to pick up points away from home, heading into tonight’s match having lost nine away games in a row.

Only bottom side Plymouth have picked up fewer than Luton’s tally of four points from 12 away matches this season, which includes just one victory which came way back in September.

The two teams have already met twice this season, once in the league and once in the EFL Cup, with both games coming within three days of each other and QPR being the winning side on both occasions, once at home and once away.

QPR’s strong home record of late combined with Luton’s dire run away from home suggests there will likely be only one winner from tonight’s Championship clash – I see a 2-0 home win as the most likely scoreline.

QPR v Luton betting tips

Michael Frey scored on his first start for QPR since suffering a calf injury back in October in the Rs’ New Year’s Day victory over Watford last week to make him the west London side’s outright leading goalscorer this season.

The Swiss striker now has five goals to his name, two of which have already come against Luton this season after netting in both their previous league encounter and their victory over the Hatters in the EFL Cup.

QPR have won their last four matches at Loftus Road, conceding just twice in the process, while Luton have lost their last nine games on the road, and take a three match losing streak into tonight’s game, in which they’ve scored just once.
