NEC FC maintained within breathing distance of leaders FC Vipers SC after earning a hard-fought win over Mbale Heroes FC on Tuesday.
The Soldier Boys edged Mbale Heroes FC 1-0 thanks to Enock Ssebagala’s first half goal.
The win brought NEC FC to within one point behind Vipers SC who are on 34 points. The Venoms won their game against Maroons FC 1-0 on Monday.
NEC FC have had a remarkable start to the 2024/25 season, taking many teams by storm.
Under the stewardship of Hussein Mbalangu, the Lugogo-based outfit has had a great run and are firmly rooted in the title talk.
In their top-flight debut season (last year), NEC FC competed until the final games of the campaign both in the League and Uganda Cup.
They ended the season in fifth position and also reached the Uganda Cup final only to lose to Kitara FC.
The team has gone on to scale new heights this season after beefing the squad with experienced players like Paul Mucureezi and Muzamiru Mutyaba who have had great contribution to the success this far.
Other new arrivals at the start of the season included; Hannington Ssebwalunyo, Jakob Okao, Patrick Bayiga and Emmanuel Ajo among others.
The club will hope to maitain similar performance in the second round with winning silerware in their mindset.
