‘It’s gone forever’ – LA soccer star crushed by devastating impact of wildfires on her home

A soccer player in the United States has shared devastating footage of her home and neighbourhood following wildfires in Los Angeles.

The wildfires engulfing parts of Los Angeles are impacting all aspects of life in Southern California and that has extended to sports.

The flames began on Tuesday and have now spread across the region leaving five people dead and more than 100,000 people have been evacuated from their homes.

Sports games have alread been cancelled with NHL team the Los Angeles Kings announcing their Wednesday night home game against Calgary will be postponed.

The game was set to be held in downtown Los Angeles but will now be rescheduled.

The Los Angeles Lakers are set to take on the Charlotte Hornets at the same arena on Thursday and as of Thursday morning, the league has not cancelled the game.

One soccer star in the United States, Ali Riley, has come out on social media to share the devastating impact the fires have had on her own home.

The Australian international is a former Chelsea and Bayern Munich defender but now plays for Angel City, a NWSL team based in Los Angeles.

The 37-year-old shared via Instagram that her home has been turned into rubble.

“I keep looking at this to make myself understand that it is real, I was there Monday night eating dinner,” Riley captioned on a photo of her home that has been destroyed.

“Hanging with Mom and Dad. Watched the sunset. And now it’s gone forever. This rubble was our home.”

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Reddick lives in the Palisades, an area where there is currently fires, and shared with reporters the impact the fires have had on his own home.

“Our family, my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister, they’ve evacuated. I know a lot of people are freaking out right now, including my family,” Redick said on Tuesday.

“From the sound of things, with the winds coming [Tuesday night], I know a lot of people are scared. So I just want to acknowledge that. Thoughts and prayers for sure, and hope everybody stays safe.”

The NFL is another leaugue that could be affected with the Palisades evaucation zone just 15 miles away from the SoFi stadium, which is to host the Rams vs Vikings wild card game this coming Monday.

Even if the fires do not reach that far, the evacuation zone could impact travel plans for the Vikings and their fans.

The NFL “continues to closely monitor developments in the area,” it said in a statement Wednesday.

Five separate fires have burned in Los Angeles County, all of them 0% contained according to state officials as of January 9th.
