Holders Kitara record comprehensive win over Young Simba, advances to round of 32 | 51st Stanbic Uganda Cup

51st Stanbic Uganda Cup (Round of 64)

Current Stanbic Uganda Cup holders Kitara Football Club progressed to the round of 32 in the 51st edition of the knock-out tournament.

This followed a convincing 4-0 victory on the road against Young Simba at the Bombo Military Barracks stadium on Sunday, 12th January 2024.

Midfielder Titus Ssematimba scored a brace with the other goals coming from George Ssenkaaba and winger Living Kabon.

Ssematimba broke the resistance of the hard-fighting third division entity in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead by the mandatory half way break.

Senkaaba made two 2-0 with four minutes into the second half before Ssematimba returned with the third goal on 66 minutes.

Kabon capped the icing on the already baked cake with a 71st minute goal.

“I am happy for the victory. Our target is to defend the trophy we won last year. They (Young Simba) were a good side but we had to give a good account of ourselves in the match” Wasswa Bbosa, head coach for Kitara remarked after the match.

Meanwhile, Express secured the place at the round of 32 with a narrow 1-0 win over Red Devo at the Namasale Technical school ground.

At the Cherish playground in Garuga, BUL rallied to beat the home team, Garuga Stars 1-0, thanks to subsistute Ibrahim Orit’s solitary goal.

Kitara, Express and BUl join the three first clubs that qualified for the next round on Friday.

Vipers, NEC and Pakwach Young Stars made the grade after winning their respective encounters.

Vipers eliminated Tepa 2-1 in Ngora under heavy rains, NEC bundled out UCU Mbale at the Mbale City stadium and Pakwach Young Stars ejected Kigezi Home Boyz 3-0 in Pakwach.

The winner of the Stanbic Uganda Cup qualifies to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.

  • UCU Mbale 0-4 NEC
  • Pakwach Young Stars 3-0 Kigezi Homeboyz
