Chelsea vs Bournemouth predictions
Chelsea returned to winning ways at the weekend, albeit against lower-league opposition in the third round of the FA Cup.
Christopher Nkunku missed a penalty in the first half of the tie against Morecambe, but braces from Tosin Adarabioyo and Joao Felix, and a redemptive strike from Nkunku, saw Chelsea run out 5-0 winners in front of their own fans.
Needless to say, Tuesday’s test at Stamford Bridge will be tougher. Bournemouth are having such a good season that they would move level on points with Chelsea if they were to emerge triumphant in west London in the midweek round of Premier League fixtures.
We cannot read too much into Chelsea’s victory over Morecambe, who are battling to avoid relegation from League Two this term.
Enzo Maresca’s side still need to show that they have turned a corner after a four-game winless streak over the festive period that in effect ended Chelsea’s title hopes.
In fairness, the championship always seemed like a pipe dream in Maresca’s maiden campaign in the Chelsea dugout. No one tipped the Blues to finish atop the table last summer.
Not many observers had them down as top-four finishers either. Chelsea are very much in the mix for Champions League football at the midway point of 2024/25, but their recent failure to beat any of Everton, Fulham, Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace should serve as a warning that the job is nowhere near done yet.
Only Liverpool and Arsenal have lost fewer games than Chelsea, who have suffered defeat four times up to now. Maresca has made this young team more resilient than many expected them to be after another chaotic summer in the transfer market.
Yet anyone who has watched Chelsea in recent weeks will know they are very much a work in progress.
That is understandable, but with Manchester City and Newcastle United breathing down their necks (not to mention the likes of Bournemouth continuing to punch above their weight), Chelsea cannot afford to take anything for granted.
For the Cherries, this is a free hit. There is no shame in losing at Stamford Bridge and Bournemouth would not be criticised for doing so. In a strange way, that might make them more dangerous.
Chelsea vs Bournemouth betting tips
Two European contenders will go head-to-head when Chelsea take on Bournemouth on Tuesday.
Bournemouth or draw
Bournemouth also scored five goals on Saturday, as they came from one down to thrash West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup.
Even without injured strikers Evanilson and Enes Unal, Andoni Iraola’s side blew away a team that is striving to be in the Premier League next term.
Dango Outtara played through the middle and scored two goals. With Antoine Semenyo and Justin Kluivert thriving this season, Bournemouth remain a potent attacking force even without Evanilson.
Free Bet Offers
Chelsea have not been overly convincing defensively all campaign, but the goals have also dried up in their last four top-flight outings, in which the Blues have scored just twice.
All things considered, Bournemouth can pick up at least a point on their latest visit to Stamford Bridge.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals
Only Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have put the ball in the back of the net more often than Chelsea this season.
The problem has been at the other end of the field. Robert Sanchez is an unconvincing goalkeeper, while Chelsea could really do with an experienced starting centre-half.
Both teams have scored in 14 of Chelsea’s 20 league games and we expect this match to follow the same pattern.
Bournemouth tend to thrive against stronger opposition, whose tendency to play out from the back provides more opportunities for Iraola’s side to win possession in advanced areas. They have beaten Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham in 2024/25.
This promises to be an entertaining encounter and we fancy there to be at least three goals overall.

Cole Palmer to score any time
Cole Palmer sits joint-third in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, behind only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland.
The England international will struggle to keep pace with that duo, but it is testament to his quality that the attacking midfielder is even in the running in what is only his second full season as a regular starter.
More often than not, Palmer is the man who makes the difference for Chelsea in the final third. As well as his 13 goals, he has also chipped in with six assists.
Palmer’s intelligent movement does not receive as much attention as his glorious natural ability, but it is key in helping him be so productive in and around the opposition penalty area.
The former Manchester City man is the obvious pick in the anytime scorer market.
