Brentford vs Manchester City predictions
Until recently, Manchester City winning three games in a row was very much ‘dog bites man’ rather than ‘man bites dog’. But given how dramatically their form collapsed at the end of 2024, it is newsworthy that City have now triumphed in three consecutive matches.
Pep Guardiola’s side ran riot at the weekend, demolishing Salford City 8-0 in the third round of the FA Cup. Before that, they beat Leicester City and West Ham United in the Premier League.
It must be said, City were not entirely convincing in either of those top-flight contests. Their trip to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester could easily have ended in a draw.
Meanwhile, a 4-1 victory over West Ham looks handsome on paper, but City still gave up numerous chances. They got away with it because of their opponents’ profligacy in the final third, but on the balance of play there was not a three-goal difference between the two teams.
Still, it was imperative that City started registering victories again regardless of performance. Through to the fourth round of the FA Cup, Guardiola’s men are also back on track in their bid to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.
To be clear, any talk of a renewed title tilt is fanciful. Yes, Liverpool are not home and dry yet. But City trail the leaders by 12 points having played a game more. They will not be defending their crown this term.
This could prove to be City’s worst ever season under Guardiola. They have never before finished lower than third with the Catalan in the dugout. Yet qualifying for the Champions League in their nadir would hardly be a disastrous outcome.
In the next few weeks we should learn more about the legal case against the club, which is alleged to have breached the Premier League’s financial rules. An independent commission will report its findings soon, perhaps before the end of the month.
City have always denied wrongdoing, but everyone associated with the club knows that a guilty verdict would lead to a severe punishment. City would no doubt launch an appeal in that scenario, but a points deduction is not out of the question.
Even after City ended their on-field crisis, there could be more chaos to come at the Etihad Stadium.
Brentford vs Manchester City betting tips
Manchester City make the journey to the Gtech Community Stadium to do battle with Brentford.
Manchester City to win and both teams to score
Brentford have the second-best home record in the Premier League this season, although they have not fared too well at the Gtech Community Stadium of late.
The Bees have lost their last three games in front of their own fans. Nottingham Forest and Arsenal both triumphed there in the league, before Plymouth Argyle produced a shock victory in that corner of west London in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

Brentford’s home record early on was indeed fantastic, but they were aided by a relatively kind fixture schedule. Beating Manchester City will be much harder than overcoming Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester.
City are still struggling to prevent their opponents creating chances, while Brentford are the division’s top home scorers.
But while we expect Thomas Frank’s team to score, they will probably suffer defeat by the champions.
Back Manchester City to win and both teams to score at 64/25 with SBK
Over 3.5 goals
Brentford’s fixtures at the Gtech in 2024/25 have been thoroughly entertaining.
Their 10 Premier League matches there have featured a total of 46 goals – a remarkable average of 4.6 per game.
At their best, Brentford are a direct, counter-attacking side. They look to get the ball forward quickly and can cause problems via the likes of Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo in attack.
As mentioned above, City still look vulnerable at the back. Since the start of November, they have conceded 18 goals in 11 games.
With all that in mind, we could be in store for a goal-laden affair on Tuesday night.

Phil Foden to score any time
It is fair to say Phil Foden had a slow start to the season.
He was held back by Guardiola early on after his involvement at Euro 2024, and when he did return to the team Foden struggled to make his usual impact.
There have been signs of late that the England international is getting back to his best, though.
Foden has scored two goals in his last four Premier League encounters, while his all-round performances have been better too.
After featuring for only 35 minutes against Salford, Foden should be sufficiently refreshed to make his mark here.
Tip Phil Foden to score any time at 13/8 with Sky Bet
