Gaddafi, Soltilo Bright Stars progress to round of 32 | 51st Stanbic Uganda Cup

51st Stanbic Uganda Cup (Round of 64)

Tuesday, 14th January 2025 Results:

  • Iganga Young 0 (4) – 0 (5) Soltilo Bright Stars – Iganga Ssaza ground, Iganga
  • Pajule Lions 1-2 Gaddafi – Pajule primary school playground, Pader

Uganda Premier League side Soltilo Bright Stars and second tier entity Gaddafi stormed the round of 32 stage in the 51st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Soltilo Bright Stars out-shot Iganga Young 5-4 in post-match penalties at the Iganga Ssaza grounds.

Normal time of this contest had ended goal-less before the penalties were called to decide the winner.

Goalkeeper Shamulan Kamya was the hero for the visitors with crucial saves in the tense shoot-out.

Away in Pader district, Gaddafi edged hard-fighting Pajule Lions, a third division club 2-1.

Pajule Lions took the early lead through Nelson Opio. Team captain Thomas Kakaire quickly equalized for the visitors before the winning goal from Ronald Bithum.

Soltilo Bright Stars and Gaddafi join the other already qualified six clubs at the round of 32.

Current Stanbic Uganda Cup holders Kitara, last year’s losing finalists NEC, Express, BUL, Vipers and Packwach Young Stars are all through to the round of 32.

Kitara humiliated Young Simba 4-0 at the Bombo military barracks stadium.

NEC also won by the same margin (4-0) against UCU Mbale at the Mbale city stadium.

Vipers gritted their teeth to eliminate Tepa 2-1 and Pakwach Young Stars humbled Kigezi Homeboyz 3-0.

There were 1-0 identical scores for BUL and Express against Garuga Stars and Red Devo respectively.

Round of 64 matches continue on Wednesday, 15th January 2025 with three matches.

Wakiso Giants are in Mbarara against Mbarara Football Club, URA away to Kalongo United and Lugazi FC made the trip to Mayuge to face Mayuga United.

The winner of the Stanbic Uganda Cup qualifies to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.
