Teofimo Lopez has aimed a new jibe at Gervonta Davis over his professional boxing resume.

Davis has emerged as one of boxing’s biggest superstars in recent years, particularly since his sensational stoppage victory over Ryan Garcia in April 2023.

But he has faced criticism over his recent calibre of opponent, having missed out on clashes with Vasyl Lomachenko and long-term rival Shakur Stevenson.

One of those critics is former undisputed lightweight champion Lopez, who has made pleas to fight ‘Tank’ himself.

But in a recent outburst, ‘The Takeover’ isn’t sure Davis’ current legacy of power punching stoppages is as it seems.

He said: “I think a lot of people just focus on the knockouts that he does but against who?

“They’re not seasoned fighters. It would be a great fight [Lopez vs Davis]. But he’s never faced a fighter like me, never. At all. Never.”

Davis has a perfect 30-0 professional record with 28 of those wins coming by KO.

The American has shown he possesses frightening power, leaving a whole, host of opponents on the canvas.

His most recent victory over Frank Martin came with yet another demolition in the eighth round last June.

And he will be the favourite to repeat the same feat against title challenger Lamont Roach in March this year.

Despite the possibility of some high-profile fights being on the table, the 30-year-old has surprisingly suggested he will retire from the sport by the end of the year.

It would be a disappointing end to a stellar career, and could somewhat give Lopez more fuel to his theory over Davis’ KO record.

Stevenson, another potential rival to Davis, has gone as far as suggesting that Davis is deliberately avoiding elite competition.

“He just don’t seem like a real person,” he said. “No disrespect to him, but I’m a real person.

“I’m not going to go out there and act like Tank isn’t a good fighter. The same way he asks what have I done for the sport of boxing, I think he should look in the mirror and ask the same question because it’s like what have you done?

“Even the guys you knocked out have all been on a weight clause, a weight drain.

“It looks good to the public and the people that don’t know, but I’m a fighter. I know what’s going on. I know what you’re doing.

“You’re taking the less talented fighters and putting them in the ring with yourself and making them look like they’re on his level, but they’re not.

“Until he fights an elite-level fighter, I don’t want to hear nothing from him.”
