FIFA Women U-17 World Cup Qualifiers 2025
- First Leg: Namibia 0-10 Uganda
Uganda humiliated Namibia 10-0 during the first leg of the FIFA women’s U-17 qualifiers at Hamz Stadium (Nakivubo war memorial grounds) on Thursday evening.
Right from onset of play through to the final whistle by Cote D’Ivoire Rachel Nzigire, Uganda was unstoppable with an effervescent performance.
Agnes Nabukenya led the assault with 6 goals to her name.
Rinah Ariho got a brace with second half substitutes Joan Kizza Namulindwa and Isabella Winifred Kabarozi Blick adding one apiece.
As early as the 6th minute, Nabukenya, a player for Kawempe Muslim secondary school beat goalkeeper Leena Uime Andonyo from close range for the opener.
Boni Consilli Girls Vocational school player Rinah Ariho doubled the lead on 10 minutes.
By the 12th minute, it was 3 goals up with Nabukenya’s second on the sunny evening and all signs were eminent for a massacre.
Namibian called for a quick change with Otheedite Tokwane replacing Christene Hausiku on the quarter hour mark.
Cythia Kirenga shot wide inside the goal area in the 17th minute in what seemed an easy opening for Uganda.
By the 18th minute, Nabukenya had completed her hat-trick, the fourth goal for Uganda.
The Nabukenya show continued with her fourth goal, a simple tap-in after Shadia Nabirye’s well laid ball from the right in the 25th minute as Uganda led 5-0 coming to the half hour mark.
The Namibian technical bench was again forced to make another change.
Defender Anna Marie Kotze replaced Shiwovanhu Indileni Ndahambekwa Haukongo as the referees granted a cooling break from hot weather.
For the time being, Kotze’s introduction was a relief as their defence temporarily stabilized.
Namibia’s best chance of the half and game arrived in the 38th minute when team captain Nancy Boipelo Lebang broke through but she curled the ball wide with goalkeeper Haira Nabbosa out of the 6-yard goal mark.
Ariho scored her second goal of the evening, Uganda’s 6th as the first half winded down.
As the second stanza of the game arrived, Uganda made a triple substitution.
Goalkeeper Nabbosa was rested for Sharifa Kizito Namutebi, Loyce Komugisha replaced Belinda Hope Nabawauka and Rashida Nakalema came on for Cynthia Kirenga.
Namibia survived being punished when goalkeeper Andonyo handled a back-pass and an indirect free-kick was awarded.
The resultant in-direct free kick from Nabukenya was ballooned over the goal overlooking the New Taxi park.
Nabukenya got cautioned in the 63rd minute for a wild lunge onto Grace Eises.
Uganda called for their fourth change with Joan Kizza Namulindwa coming on for Shadia Nabirye inside the last 25 minutes.
Uganda missed a golden chance in the 67th minute when left back Charity Katusiime delivered a sweet diagonal ball long ball but Nabukenya was already in an off-side position despite putting the ball in the back of the net.
Goal number seven came from super sub Joan Kizza Namulindwa after a solo run on the right flank before finishing at the near post.
Nabukenya returned with the 8th goal following a lovely flip over the goalkeeper Andonyo and an easy tap into the net.
On the 75th minute mark, Nabukenya capped her 6th goal and Uganda’s 9th with a customary calm finish.
Moments later, Uganda’s 5th change of the game was called.
Isabella Winifred Kabarozi Blick replaced two goal heroine Ariho before the second cooling break of the game.
Blick needed a few minutes to record her name among the scorers with a right footed finish following a powerful header.
Dorren Aujat got cautioned by the referee for a foul in the final minutes of the game.
By this time, It was all done and dusted; the damage had been inflicted and Uganda celebrated with a 10 goal’s victory.
The return leg comes in a few days on Sunday, 19th January 2025 at the same Hamz fortress in the heart of Uganda’s capital city, Kampala.
