Arsenal ended their three-match winless run in midweek by securing their double of local rivals Tottenham in the North London derby on Wednesday night, putting them big in contention of a first Premier League title in 21 years.
Victory for Mikel Arteta’s side in midweek closed the gap on league leaders Liverpool to just four points, albeit with the Reds having played a game fewer, and also put the Gunners in standalone second place in the Premier League table, pulling clear of Nottingham Forest.
The north London side are now 11 matches unbeaten in the Premier League, and have picked up more points at their home stadium than any other top flight side this season, though did lose back to back home games in domestic cups last week.
Saturday evening sees the Gunners take on an Aston Villa side who made it three wins on the spin with a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Everton under difficult circumstances for the visitors, with David Moyes taking charge of his first game back at the Toffees.
The win saw Unai Emery’s side climb back into the top seven in the Premier League table, where they’re now only three points off the top four and and the Champions League positions.
The Villans head to the capital having lost five of their last six matches away from home in the Premier League, but will take confidence from their victory on Merseyside in midweek, albeit against a side in the midst of a relegation battle.
The West Midlands side have won two of their last three matches against the Gunners, including their most recent visit to the Emirates, but Arsenal did get the better of the two sides when they last met back in August.
