Winnipeg Jets at Montreal Canadiens predictions
Scoring a highlight reel goal against the Flames, Kyle Connor continues to deliver for Winnipeg. On Sunday the 28-year-old also added two assists in just under 20 minutes of ice time. Through 51 outings, Connor has cataloged 27 goals and 63 points.
Putting in a first-star display against Calgary, Gabe Vilardi has become a key contributor on offence. Sunday evening saw the six-year NHL vet amass two goals and two assists, extending his point streak to three games. In 51 appearances this year, the center has collected 47 points.
Since Eric Comrie started on Sunday, Winnipeg will most likely start Connor Hellebuyck between the pipes against the Canadiens. The two-time Vezina Trophy winner currently ranks first in the NHL in the wins department with 30 while posting a 2.02 GAA and a .926 save percentage.
Habs captain Nick Suzuki snapped his two-game pointless run on Saturday, contributing to all three of Montreal’s goals against the Devils. The centre logged a goal and two assists to add to his point total of 50 this NHL season.
Cole Caufield managed to light the lamp once again as the Habs sniper collected his 25th goal of the year, snapping his five-game goalless run. The 24-year-old is currently seventh overall in the league in the goals department.
Winnipeg Jets at Montreal Canadiens tip
Entering Tuesday’s tilt the Jets are the team that are in better form of late, that said we feel the Canadiens have a shot to win as live underdogs.
Montreal has a favourable historical advantage of late that we feel that gives them an edge. In their last six meetings on Bell Centre ice, the Habs are 5-1 straight up versus Winnipeg. Montreal have punched above their weight of late winning 13 of their last 19 games overall.
It seemed minor at the time, but the acquisition of Alexandre Carrier, has made Habs GM Kent Hughes look like a genius, as the player has upgraded the overall play on the backend for Montreal.
Going against one of the best teams in the NHL to upend them is a tall task, but we feel Montreal are fully capable of securing all two points at home. Montreal will be the more rested side having an extra day off with no travel versus Winnipeg having played 48 hours ago.
