Kyadondo Rugby Club concludes age-grade holiday program with U-17 boys final

Kyadondo Rugby Club celebrates its silver jubilee in this 2024-25 season. As part of a long list of events to mark this anniversary, the club has hosted a series of age-grade tournaments during the December-January school holidays.

These include the U-15 and U-17 boys and girls 7s tournaments, and the U-17 boys XVs tournament. The U-15 7s tournament was held on December 18, 2024, and the U-17 7s tournament was held on January 8, 2025.

List of Winners of the age-grade 7s tournaments:

  • U-15 Boys 7s: Namilyango Tyrants
  • U-15 Girls 7s: Mini Swans
  • U-17 Boys 7s: Kyadondo Academy
  • U-17 Girls 7s: Mini Swans

The U-17 boys XVs tournament has been held every Wednesday morning from January 15 and will climax on January 29 this week. Six teams; Black Onyx, NOVA RFC, Namilyango Tyrants, Ivan Magomu Youth Programme, Rams Academy, and hosts Kyadondo Academy have participated.

Round One Results (January 15):

  • Kyadondo Academy 14-10 Rams Academy
  • Black Onyx 03-41 Namilyango Tyrants
  • Ivan Magomu Youth Programme 45-14 NOVA RFC

Round Two Results (January 22):

  • 5/6th place playoff: Black Onyx 00-62 NOVA RFC
  • Semifinal I: Ivan Magomu Youth Programme 36-10 Kyadondo Academy
  • Semifinal II: Namilyango Tyrants 00-24 Rams Academy

Ivan Magomu Youth Programme and Rams Academy qualified for the final after being Kyadondo Academy and Namilyango Tyrants respectively. The final will kick off at 11.30 a.m. (local time) at Kyadondo Rugby Club.

Round Three Fixtures (January 29):

  • Exhibition Match – 9 a.m.: Black Onyx v SMACK U15
  • Bronze Medal Match – 10.30 a.m.: Namilyango Tyrants v Kyadondo Academy
  • FINAL – 11.30 a.m.: Ivan Magomu Youth Programme v Rams Academy

These tournaments have built a foundation for fresh players in teams like Black Onyx to get into rugby and play competitive rugby for the first time. They have also provided a platform for others in teams like Namilyango Tyrants to stay active ahead of the schools league later this year.
