Bayern Munich vs Slovan Bratislava predictions
Bayern Munich began the league phase of the Champions League with a bang.
A 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb on matchday one set a new record, as Vincent Kompany’s men became the first team in the history of the competition to score more than eight goals in a single match.
However, it has not been entirely plain sailing for the Bavarians since then. Bayern have also beaten Benfica, Paris Saint-Germain and Shakhtar Donetsk, but defeats by Aston Villa, Barcelona and Feyenoord have left them in an underwhelming position heading into matchday eight.
Bayern are at least guaranteed a play-off place, but their chances of finishing in the top eight are in the balance. A win here would put them in contention, but Bayern’s fate will ultimately be decided by results elsewhere.
There are two reasons why Kompany would love to bypass the play-offs and proceed directly to the round of 16.
The most obvious is that it would give them a better chance of winning the Champions League. No one would relish facing Bayern in the play-offs, but that does not mean they are guaranteed an easy tie. The likes of Juventus, PSG and Manchester City are potential opponents in the next stage.
Secondly, Bayern would rather do without two additional games next month as they attempt to hold off Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race. Leverkusen, for their part, are well positioned to finish in the top eight and therefore avoid the play-offs. That would potentially give them an advantage back home.
On the plus side, Bayern could hardly have asked for a kinder assignment to end the league phase. Slovan Bratislava are one of only two teams (the other being Young Boys) who are yet to collect a single point in this new-look Champions League.
Losses to Celtic, Manchester City, Girona, Dinamo Zagreb, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Stuttgart have left Slovan second-bottom of the 36-team table. The only consolation is that Young Boys have a worse goal difference.
The Slovakian outfit will only be playing for pride on Wednesday. Even if they had something more tangible to fight for, it is doubtful that Slovan would be able to cause an in-form Bayern side too many problems.
As it is, the bookies justifiably have the hosts down as strong favourites to triumph on Wednesday evening.
Bayern Munich vs Slovan Bratislava betting tips
Bayern Munich are widely expected to get the better of Slovan Bratislava on matchday eight of the Champions League.
Bayern Munich – 4.5 Asian handicap
Slovan Bratislava will be desperate to pick up their first point of the campaign this week, but it is hard to see it happening.
Bayern Munich have won five games in a row in the Bundesliga, and while they came unstuck away to Feyenoord last time out in Europe, they have a 100 percent home record in the Champions League this season.
Free Bet Offers
Bayern only narrowly edged out both PSG and Benfica at the Allianz Arena, but this is a team that knows how to turn on the style against inferior opposition.
As well as that 9-2 demolition of Dinamo Zagreb, Bayern also thrashed Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 last month.
Goal difference could be a factor, so the German giants will be incentivised to run up the score.
Back Bayern Munich with a -4.5 Asian handicap at 21/20 with bet365
Bayern Munich over 8.5 corners
It should be one-way traffic for the majority of this match at the Allianz Arena.
They might not admit it publicly, but Slovan Bratislava would probably settle for a 3-0 defeat if they were offered it.
Bayern Munich could easily have close to 80 percent possession and the ball will be in the Slovan half more often than not.
On account of their territorial dominance, Kompany’s team tends to rack up the corners in the Bundesliga – and we should see something similar here.
Bayern may well get into double figures, but take the safer option of nine corners or more.

Harry Kane to score at least two goals
With Bayern Munich fighting for a top-eight finish, we are unlikely to see Kompany ring the changes for this game.
A player like Harry Kane wants to be involved whenever he is fit and he should get his wish on Wednesday.
The England international will see this as an opportunity to boost his goal tally in the Champions League, which currently stands at five in 2024/25.
Kane is four goals behind Robert Lewandowski at the top of the charts, but he will view matchday eight as an opportunity to close the gap.
Up against relatively weak opponents, Kane should be able to score at least twice without too much difficulty.
Choose Harry Kane to score at least two goals at 27/14 with SBK
