Having said to myself that I was going to make an effort to consume more protein, I thought what better time than now to start.
However, those who have counted their macros before will know it’s not as simple as eating whatever you like, so now is the time to turn back to the old faithful whey protein to help me along the way.
Though it might not look the most appetising, each Protein Works flavour I tried was delicious.[/caption]
Protein Works
Having tried and tested Myprotein, Form and plenty of others in the past, I needed something new, and that’s where Protein Works came in.
Protein Works has been in the fitness space since 2012, boldly claiming to deliver “the best shakes on the planet”.
The brand has garnered a loyal following and even boasts a 4.7/5 score on Trustpilot with a whopping 37,000 reviews.
I was keen to jump into this review and see what the fuss was about.

How I tested Protein Works
To put Protein Works to the test, I consumed one of its shakes daily to go alongside a healthy and balanced diet.
I made notes on the taste of each flavour, how it made me feel and how easily the powder mixed together.
I then individually ranked each shake out of 5 to determine which is the best option.
Protein Works: quick summary
Protein Works
Pros:
- One of the best protein shakes I’ve tasted
- Decent amount of protein per serving
- Selected shakes have added glutamine and digestive enzymes
- A number of premium flavours on offer
Cons:
- Premium products are slightly pricey
Rating: 5/5
Over the years, I’ve tried a heap of different protein powder brands, each to varying levels of success, but one that’s somehow escaped me up until now is Protein Works.
Looking to make a conscious effort with my protein intake, I eagerly looked to Protein Works’ products to help me along the way.
With a single scoop per serving, the Whey Protein 360 Extreme blend delivers 26g of protein in a flash.[/caption]
Protein Works
I tried the Whey Protein 360 Extreme blend first in a few different flavours mixed with oat milk and was quickly taken aback by just how quickly and effortlessly this powder mixed.
Not only did each shake have virtually no clumps, but they also had what I’d consider to be the perfect consistency, similar to that of a Five Guys milkshake.
The taste was downright delicious. Sure, it still had that grainy essence that most protein shakes do, but I would honestly drink this even if it wasn’t for sports-based purposes.
This particular blend also has around 26g of protein, which is the average for a single scoop of whey.
There are some added vitamins and minerals to help with fatigue and immune system support, too.
After an impressive start, I decided to switch to the brand’s 100% Protein option in a Millionaire’s Shortbread flavour.
Marketed as the brand’s most affordable protein, you can get 1.25kg (or 50 shakes) for £16.59, which is an absolute bargain.
Similarly to the Whey Protein 360 Extreme blend, this 100% protein required nearly no effort to mix and produced a semi-smooth texture when combined with oat milk.
Millionaire’s Shortbread wouldn’t exactly be my first pick for protein flavours, but hats off to Protein Works because it was delicious.
Arguably the smoothest protein shake I’ve ever tried, Protein Works offers very little in the way of clumps.[/caption]
Protein Works
Coming in at 21g of protein per serving and no extra vitamins and minerals, I would likely stick with the Whey Protein 360 Extreme blend in the future, but the 100% protein is a great budget option, you can’t go wrong!
So, would I buy Protein Works again? Undoubtedly, yes.
Not only is the brand affordable, but for me the “best shakes on the planet” statement holds true.

Looking to bolster my diet with more protein, I figured I’d put some of Protein Works’ products to the test myself to see what all the fuss is about.
I tried the brand’s Whey Protein 360 Extreme and 100% Protein blends to see which was best to help me get back on track.

Protein Works review: Whey Protein 360 Extreme
As Protein Works’ most complete powder, the Whey Protein 360 Extreme is well worth checking out.[/caption]
Protein Works Whey Protein 360 Extreme blend
Pros:
- One of the best protein shakes I’ve ever tasted
- 26g of protein per serving
- Added glutamine and digestive enzymes
- Extra vitamins and minerals
- Lots of flavours, including premium additions
Cons:
- Slightly more expensive…but still worth it
Rating: 5/5
Advertised as the brand’s most premium and innovative powder, the Whey Protein 360 Extreme blend is the cream of the crop of Protein Works‘ offerings.
Featuring 26g of protein per serving, slow and fast-release proteins, added glutamine, digestive enzymes and added vitamins and minerals, this shake covers all bases.
Priced as little as £0.61p per portion (based on the largest weight available – 5kg), this premium offering isn’t too expensive when you see how many servings you get.
I tested the Banana Milkshake and Blueberry Cheesecake Riot flavours and mixed both with oat milk. I was fairly surprised at how easily they came together.
With minimal effort, each shake produced no clumps or bumps and the semi-smooth texture was comparable with any great milkshake.
As for the flavour, I can safely say it was nothing short of delicious. With “the best shakes on the planet” gracing all the packaging, I expected something special and Protein Works delivered exactly that.
While the Banana Milkshake was a clear favourite, the Blueberry Cheesecake Riot was just as pleasant. This came as a surprise because that certainly wouldn’t be my first pick of flavours.
I’d be happy to drink these shakes even if I wasn’t consuming them on a fitness-related basis.
So would I buy this particular product again? Wholeheartedly yes!
For the price, quality and flavour, I would happily purchase this blend again, and I can’t wait to try what other flavours are on offer.
Protein Works 100% Protein full review
The Protein Works 100% Protein blend is your ticket to affordable gains.[/caption]
Protein Works 100% Protein
Rating: 4.5/5
Pros:
- Very affordable
- Still tastes fantastic
- Very easy to mix
- Plenty of flavours on offer
Cons:
- Not as much protein as the extreme blend
- No added vitamins and minerals
Rating: 4.5/5
Next up on the list was the cost-effective 100% Protein blend.
Compared to its Whey Protein 360 Extreme counterpart, this blend offers slightly less protein (21g) and doesn’t come with added digestive enzymes and vitamins.
However, what it lacks in the ingredient department, it more than makes up for it with its cost.
If you were to buy the largest 5KG portion of this particular blend, which is 200 shakes it would cost you as little as £0.28 each, which is an absolute bargain by any standard.
Opting for the enticing yet peculiar Millionaire’s Shortbread flavour, I once again paired my shakes with oat milk to mix.
Just like the previous example, I found that Protein Works shakes mix way more efficiently than any other protein powder I’ve tried in the past (and believe me, there have been a lot of them).
Millionaire’s Shortbread wouldn’t usually be my top pick for flavour, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the sweet and savoury taste. The only downside to this particular blend is the fact the protein count is slightly below the average.
Because of this, the 100% Protein narrowly misses out on a perfect score.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly alternative, I would absolutely recommend this.
Protein Works review: the verdict
If you hadn’t guessed already, I would buy Protein Works again in a heartbeat.
When my current stash runs out, I will almost certainly be purchasing a re-up of the Banana Milkshake 360 extreme blend and will try another flavour.
It’s going to take something really special to get me to change brands from Protein Works.
Where to buy Protein Works?
The best place to buy Protein Works is directly from the brand’s website. This is because of the extensive range of products, flavours and alternatives available.
Some deals might appear on Amazon and OnBuy, so it’s always worth keeping your eyes open for offers and discounts throughout the year.
Is Protein Works good?
In my experience, Protein Works is among the best protein powders on the market.
Having tried numerous protein powders in the past, it’s been quite some time since I’ve been this impressed with an individual set of products.
The flavour, pricing and quality of the shakes are all fantastic, and each provides adequate levels of protein and complete amino acid profiles.
There are an array of flavours available, each with premium ingredients sourced by nutritionists from around the world.
Is Protein Works good for weight loss?
While consuming Protein Works powders won’t directly help you lose weight, there are some benefits of trying them if you’re trying to slim down.
For example, due to the high protein in the shakes, you’re more likely to stay satiated for longer and likely cut out any impromptu snacking.
In addition, certain proteins found in shakes increase the level of hormones in your body that reduce your appetite or promote diet-induced thermogenesis (DIT). This means you’re more likely to burn calories naturally.
The brand even offers a dedicated Clear Diet Whey Protein with a juice-like consistency, 20g of protein and 85 calories per serving.
How much does Protein Works cost?
The cost of Protein Works can vary, but for the most part, it is very affordable.
For example, when purchasing a 5kg portion of the 100% Protein blend for around £60, you’ll get 200 shakes. This means each portion can cost as little as £0.28p.
The brand also runs regular promotions and sales, meaning you can often secure products for a reduced price.
Protein Works alternatives
If you’ve tried Protein Works and it’s not quite for you, there are many reputable alternatives. One I’ve personally tried is Form, a vegan and GMO-free protein powder made from a variety of plant-based proteins that tastes incredible.
The Myprotein Impact Whey Protein Powder is one of the best-selling protein powders in the game, and this blend is available in several flavours.
Finally, The Organic Protein Company Whey Protein Is free from chemicals and additives, and this blend supports both protein intake and muscle and bone health, making it a winner in our eyes.
