The opening round for the professionals at the 2025 Kabalaza Golf open was successfully played on Thursday, 30th January at the par-71 lake side golfing facility in Entebbe Municipality.

The duo of Abraham Ainamani and David Kamulindwa each scored the day’s best scores of 3-under-68 to share the joint lead.

Ainamani and Kamulindwa were both a shot better than Ronald Rugumayo and Grace Kasango.

Entebbe bred professional, Vincent “Araali” Byamukama played 1-under 70 and finished 5th after the opening 18 holes.

On 1-over 72 were seven golfers; Saidi Mawa, Emma Ogwang, Adolf Muhumuza, Bulhan Matovu (72), Deo Akope, Peter Sendawula and the lady professional Irene Nakalembe.

Day two of the professionals will also mark the final round to mark 36 holes on Friday, 31st January 2024.

Meanwhile, the top gross (elite players) will also wind up their grueling 54 holes on the same day.

Andrew Ssekibejja established a 3 shot lead after the completion of the second round on Thursday, 30th January.

The Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa member struck an identical level par (71 gross) score mark in 36 holes.

The 2022 Uganda Amateur open champion played 3 birdies (on holes 6, 8, 9), 1 Eagle (hole 13), 9 pars (on holes 1, 3, 4, 7, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18) and 5 bogies (on holes 2, 5, 10, 11 and the dog-legged Deo Akope Challenge hole 17) during round two action under sunny conditions.

“I want to finish strongly. I will play regulation during the final round” Ssekibejja remarked.

Overnight leader Anthony Otukei from Lugazi Hills and Country club falls to second place after a disappointing 6-over-77 score in the second round.

Patrick Mubiru, Elton Thembo and Joseph Cwinya-ai are jointly tied on 147 in third place coming to the final 18 holes on Friday.

Thursday’s action witnessed Godfrey Kambale score the best score; 2-under 69 to better his opening round score of 10-over-81.

The Kabalaza open championship shall climax on Saturday, 1st February 2025 with the main open and crowning ceremony.
