Ireland head into this year’s tournament looking to win their third consecutive title for the first time in their history, and are bidding to become the first nation to win a threepeat since the late 1980s when France won four on the spin, though two of those were shared.

The opening match of the tournament takes place on Friday night in Paris as France take on Wales, with Ireland in action for the first time on Saturday evening taking on England at Aviva Stadium.

This year, with Ireland’s usual head coach Andy Farrell taking on the role of British & Irish Lions head coach ahead of their trip to Australia this summer, usual assistant manager Simon Easterby will be taking control of the side for their Six Nations campaign.

Ireland, who head into this year’s Championship as joint favourites with France to win the title, follow up their opening fixture with two away games in Edinburgh then Cardiff before returning to the Irish capital for a potential title deciding clash in Round 4 against France, before a trip to Rome for their final outing.
