Dominik Mysterio clashed with WWE newcomer Penta just hours before the Royal Rumble as a talkSPORT interview was knocked off track.

Mysterio had been previewing the marquee event in our exclusive chat when a heated exchange followed between the two, who are both in Saturday’s gigantic men’s Royal Rumble bout.

Penta is WWE’s newest face having made a stirring debut and major first impression as the maiden recruit in what many are calling the ‘Netflix’ era.

Having spent the last year in rival organisation All Elite Wrestling, Penta has wasted no time establishing his star power in WWE and has swiftly amassed a sizable following amongst the company’s fans.

Mysterio, meanwhile, has been the resident WWE oik since turning on his legendary father, Rey Mysterio Jr, at Clash at the Castle in Cardiff in 2022.

Aligning himself with the Judgement Day, ‘Dirty Dom’ has since established himself as one of the organisation’s most detestable characters, not least thanks to his treatment of former love interest Rhea Ripley whom he betrayed in favour of Liv Morgan.

Both men were in town to fulfil media duties ahead of Saturday’s epic Rumble in Indianapolis and, unsurprisingly, things quickly came to ahead when their paths crossed during Mysterio’s chat with talkSPORT’s Jon Jackson.

Dom had already blasted ‘f*** Penta’ within the 39-year-old’s earshot, leading to the luchador striding over to the belligerent Mysterio and getting in his face.

The two faced off briefly before Penta flicked off Mysterio’s cap – the latter then, perhaps wisely, taking a step back before things could turn really ugly.

The former AEW World Tag Team Champion warned back in his rival’s direction: “See you soon, baby”, as a possible tease toward a confrontation between the two at the Rumble.

Recovering his composure, former NXT North American Champion Mysterio laughed off losing his cap, insisting: “He’s doing me a favour.

“He thinks he’s knocking my hat? I’m trying to hide my hair because people love the mullet! People want to pay for the mullet, I can’t just give you the mullet.”

Things got tense quickly during talkSPORT Royal Rumble interviews

Mysterio will join Penta, LA Knight, CM Punk and John Cena as entrants already confirmed for Saturday’s men’s bout as wrestlers battle for their chance to challenge for championship gold at WrestleMania.

Seth Rollins, Rey Mysterio, Sami Zayn, Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul are all also within the 30-man line-up.

Elsewhere on the landmark show, WWE’s first PLE on Netflix, Cody Rhodes defends the Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens in a ladder match.

A women’s Rumble match will also feature, with Charlotte Flair returning to head up a stellar line-up also including Nia Jax, Bayley and Bianca Belair.

Dominik Mysterio was speaking to talkSPORT with WWE 2K25, which is out on March 14th.
