Is there anything Terence Crawford can’t do?

‘Bud’ is the undisputed welterweight boxing world champion, having previously also been undisputed super lightweight world champion, but could he be lining up in New Orelans instead of Patrick Mahomes or Jalen Hurts when the Super Bowl rolls into town?

Crawford is among the best pound-for-pound ranked fighters in the world. He cemented his position as such by winning a one-sided beatdown against Errol Spence in July 2023 to crown himself the undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO welterweight world champion.

He then claimed the WBA super welterweight crown to join an elite club of four-weight champions when he beat Israil Madrimov in 2024. Before going the distance with Madrimov in LA, he had been on an incredible 11-fight KO streak which dated back to 2016.

But away from boxing, he is a huge football fan and was on hand to lead out the Nebraska Cornhuskers for their huge college showdown with the Colorado Buffaloes in September. He has also shown he is also quite a handy American football quarterback.

In 2023, a video emerged of Crawford playing flag football, which is essentially a non-contact version of the sport we see played in the NFL, with its biggest game of the year, the Super Bowl, fast approaching.

As the ball is snapped to him, he can be seen being chased down by defenders, but as he back-peddles while dodging them, he throws a ‘Hail Mary’ pass to the end zone and it is caught for a touchdown.

At this point, Crawford turns to the camera and says: “Did you get that?” before celebrating with his friends.

And this is not the first time we have seen Crawford demonstrate athletic talent outside of the boxing ring.

MMA fans were impressed when footage emerged of Crawford showing off his wrestling skills and there were even calls for him to fight in the UFC.

And as if this weren’t enough, he has also shown himself to be a talented basketball player in the past.

The 36-year-old unbeaten champion will likely to be milling around New Orleans as fans gather for the ‘greatest show on turf.’

The Super Bowl is pitting the Kansas City Chiefs against the Philadelphia Eagles, with the Chiefs, led by Mahomes gunning for an historic three-peat.

The Chiefs have won the previous two editions to add to their 1969 and 2019 rings.

Crawford, though, may have even bigger fish to fry with a mega fight against undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO super-middleweight world champion Canelo Alvarez set to take place this year.

The pound-for-pound greats have been on a collision course since Crawford stated his willingness to move up two weight classes to challenge Canelo in his natural division.

“It’s the biggest fight in boxing to make right now,” he tweeted last year.

It has the potential to become a commercial blockbuster in the same vein as Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao as well as Mayweather against Canelo, Oscar De La Hoya and Conor McGregor.

According to Ring Magazine, the pair will meet in September in the main event of a Riyadh Season card in Las Vegas.
