Newcastle head into Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup second leg as odds on favourites to progress to the final having earned a 2-0 advantage with a fantastic win at the Emirates Stadium in last month’s first leg.
The victory for Eddie Howe’s men in the capital came in the midst of a nine match winning streak which saw the Magpies climb from the bottom half of the Premier League table into the Champions League positions, as well as progress in both domestic cups.
Since that run came to an end though, the Tyneside club have lost two of their last three matches, only beating a rock-bottom of the table Southampton side in that run, with Saturday’s defeat at home against Fulham seeing lose two home games on the trot ahead of Wednesday’s crunch clash.
Newcastle are looking to reach their second Carabao Cup final in three years having lost out to Manchester United at Wembley in 2023, leaving the club still looking to lift the trophy for their first time in their history, whilst also aiming to end a 56-year trophy drought.

Arsenal face a big uphill task to turn their Carabao Cup semi final around after losing their home first leg 2-0, but will take huge confidence into Wednesday’s second leg after dismantling four-time defending Premier League champions Manchester City 5-1 on Sunday.
The victory was Mikel Arteta’s side’s fourth in a row in all competitions, and the Gunners head to Tyneside having not lost a match away from home in any competition since early November.
Sunday’s win over the reigning champions saw Arsenal close the gap between themselves and the runaway league leaders Liverpool back down to six points, and gives them a three point cushion over Nottingham Forest in third, and a nine point lead over the chasing top four pack.
The north London side be aiming to overturn their first leg deficit with the goal of winning the Carabao Cup for the first time since 1993, also looking to end a five-year trophy drought (not including Community Shields).
Newcastle have won three of their last four games against Arsenal ahead of Wednesday’s big semi final second leg, with the Gunners losing on three of their last four visits to St James’ Park, including each of their last two.
