Kampani Eagles Rugby Club’s flyhalf Ronnie Kayondo has died following a head injury sustained during the men’s Uganda Rugby Premiership match between Toyota Buffaloes and Eagles on Saturday evening at Kyadondo Rugby Club.

Kayondo was pronounced dead on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Kampala Hospital. A joint statement published by Kampani Eagles and the Uganda Rugby Union revealed that he passed away while receiving medical attention at the hospital.
“The Uganda Rugby Union, Kampani Eagles RFC and the wider rugby community mourn the loss of this promising young player, who had so much to offer. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ronnie’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Kayondo was part of Eagles from its formative years. During the Eagles’ Rugby Club Awards in July last year, he was the recipient of the special “Award From Above.”

May Ronnie Kayondo’s soul rest in peace!
