Following the unfortunate and tragic death of Ronnie Kayondo, a Kampani Eagles player, on Sunday afternoon after a head injury sustained during the match against Toyota Buffaloes at Kyadondo Rugby Club the previous day, the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has postponed all matches scheduled for the coming week.
URU published the much-needed statement on Tuesday afternoon, as the rugby fraternity joins Kayondo’s friends and family for his send-off in Kaduggala-Mirembe.

“In consideration of the shock and dismay that this has caused the entire rugby fraternity and in the spirit of solidarity and to mourn our dearly departed, the Uganda Rugby Union in consultation with the clubs’ leadership, key stakeholders and the wider rugby fraternity, resolved to reschedule all matches and allow for two weeks of mourning.”
There will be no competitive rugby in the men’s Rugby Premiership, the women’s Rugby Premiership, the Regional Championships, and the Reserve Premierships on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
All those scheduled matches have been moved by a week to February 22, 2025.
